I actually frequent FF servers quite often and one of the main moves is fan in between using force powers, and it took me a few years to learn how to overcome my oppodents fan so that I give the damage instead of taking it, there is a trick to fanning, but not many people realize that as they just resort to downplaying it and not even giving it a shot.Master CoG wrote:U can not spam staff.... but 98% of staffers spam. So I still say it requires basically no knowledge of any move but right click and crouch fan
That is FF and server cfgs are basically COMPLETELY different from NF servers. In NF, fanning really doesn't take too much skill. Also since Staff is primarily to be an offensive weapon which would mean to spam it, it really is a ineffective weapon if you don't spam it in some way compared to using single
By my understanding the definition of spam is to use a certain move in repetition, in which case I would argue that ANY move with ANY stance in the game can be "spammed", for example red users "spam" red downslash.
Yeah, yeah, I've already used that definition personally but since there are different ''rates of fire'' it's a different type of spam. Such as saying in Iraq snipers ''spam'' their shots compared to a soldier with a M249 which is a Light Machine Gun. Snipers have to ''aim'' their shots a bit better and have better timing while the Gunner can lay steady suppression fire which is the equal of Staff yellow

Anyone who spams staff fan can be very effective, but its just spam. I found many ways to deal with staff spammers, and I can tell you now no matter how good a staff spammer is, there are moves to overcome it even with yellow mode single saber and I am not talking about cheap tricks like DFA.

Re: Debate on "spamming" saber styles.
Yes, I do usually use fan quite often, the reason being that I've used it for quite awhile and I know exactly how to time it right, which is why, to everyone's surprise I usually win my duels. In essence, I've made it INTO a skill by perfecting my timing and using staff with knowledge on how it works, which is why I defeat most red stance opponents I am faced against. Whenever I attempt a fan usually the red stancer will go for a red downslash and he can easily connect with it, giving me more damage than I gave him, it STILL happens all the time, that's a great way to defeat staff and happens to me daily, so if your smart enough, staff is easily defeated with red, leaving no reason to call it noobish because your beginning claim is that it's the easiest to kill people with and takes no skill, since red stance can easily defeat staff with a little brains, it would make the red stance easier to kill people with than the staff.Aragorn wrote:
You just proved my point that you use fan more than anything else with staff. Yeah, you can kill someone in one hit with red but it takes skill to be able to pull it off. It's not easy to do and it's a heck of a lot easier with fanning than red. Thats why people use it
I don't know about you, but when I fight with red, I hold my mouse down and alternate between WASD to do multiple slash combos down. "Holding down mouse button" is an invalid argument, because I hold it down when I play with red as well. Another reason I use staff is because believe it or not it actually is quite difficult to beat a skilled red saberist using a staff, you have to avoid every hit they dish out because when a red stancer hits, it hits HARD and you don't have much health left and have to be careful. It requires plenty of skill to defeat a skilled red saberist using staff, if you do not believe me, try going staff for a day and fight some really skilled JVS red saberists, trust me, it's harder than you think. I also wouldn't say it's the most efficient but that is based purley off of opinion, red stance does more damage than yellow but it's also slower, but again, if timed right you can connect your red hits and not have to worry about the speed advantage of the staff.Aragorn wrote:
It is the easiest way to kill people. It's the most efficient and requires the littlest skill possible. Holding the mouse button down, pressing A and D. Not hard at all. I have beaten staff spammers as well and I know how to kill them, that doesn't make it less annoying or less noobish.

I usually just use overhand red chop. Boom simple, to the point and deals massive damage and makes the staff spammer a LOT less aggressive since you bloodied his nose.

It takes alot of skill to use a staff and defeat a SKILLED red saberist. Your basing your definition of skill off of red vs red. Little do you know, there are DIFFERENT types of skill. In red vs red dodging isn't as much of an issue, the main goal is to hit your opponent with red, if your opponent is swinging at you at the same time, it doesn't matter as much because they are both of equal strength and blocking frequency, so you have the ability to parry. Dodging plays a HUGE part in using a staff against a red, because if your using staff you have to use quick and timed slashes, they do alot less damage than red swings do, try scoring a yellow slash on somebody who's always swinging a heavily damaging red slash in your face, it's extremely hard and requires alot of skill. If you go for the yellow slash and he sees you and throws a red downslash in your direction and you BOTH hit, YOU will take the most damage from a red downslash, but you would have only taken a small chunk out of him with your yellow slash, leaving you at the health disadvantage. It will take a hell of a lot more yellow slashes to kill him than red slashes to kill you. The skill in using a staff is the timing, and dodging and scoring as many hits as you can without being hit by a heavy damaging red blow.

Re: Debate on "spamming" saber styles.
The difference between kata and fanning is that kata is one set move, no real way to alter than yawspeed and sensitivity. Fanning, can be altered by speed, how you use your mouse, timing your fan, and even aggressiveness. That's why I don't see any comparison between those. I don't see how calling something that is different from yours, noobish. Unless you really know all about it, can you really judge something you don't really know? Yes, a lot of staff does involve fanning, so does that make the whole staff noobish? Meaning Hero's specialty is noobish.
Mass, there's no point in saying 'I could beat you in base'. Reason? Because we are not on base. What's the point of saying that you could beat me in something that I have little to no experience with?
Like others are saying, if fanning is noobish, it is considerably easy to beat, and if you can beat it, like most skilled players can, why complain about it?
