there are metals that will always have value, gold, silver, certain gems...

other food stuffs and supplies will be valuable as well but that stuff is consumable or will spoil. gold will always have value and be in demand.

I dunno, social evolution maybe? Slavery? Gone after milennia. Religious obscurity? Gone. Racism? Gone. All these parameters were socially universal thru out history, and are now deceased. I AM assuming that trade system will go as well sooner or later, because it is a step forward in social evolution. Globalization and unification should mean equality in all sectors of human need. what happens when you run out of specie at the bank? You get crises like the one during Jackson's Presidency.

More over, the gold standard exacerbates the business cycle, businesses don't like that, in fact, businesses supported Wilson's establishment of the first truly central bank, the Federal reserve.

Trying to fight inflation and deflation with the gold standard? Good luck, you can't.

Run on bank? How do you get that specie back? The banks collapse, financial ruin galore.

So ya, not really, not even Hamilton was silly enough to see gold as the main vehicle for transaction.

Of course, our methods of transaction will change over the years, what remains clear is this, we will not trade gold as tender.

Means nothing if the global economy collapses. Gold will be valuable, your toilet paper dollar bills will not, nor will sea shells, nor anything else except maybe food and weapons.

I must disagree. Money representate ammount of gold, silver and other valuable minerals that country have stored. But how do you imaginate life witout money/gold ? Back to barter like hundreds years ago ? You will cross whole country with tons of resources to exchange it for tons of for example food ? That may work only with small population but no when we talk about millions of people. And about inflation and deflation - those are strictly connected with gold so yea you can fight with them using gold.
