Post by Ptolemy Thu Jun 17, 2010 3:59 pm

Thing is oil is a natural product. there are enzymes in the water that are exploding right now that will be dealing with the aftermath of this spill. yes we need to contain it, yes it sux for the animals and NO i am not saying leave it to nature. We should clean up our own messes.

I AM saying that the earth will heal its self and thinking that there is anything man can do to destroy this planet is the height of arrogance IMHO. we can end our existence but this planet will go on. Wild life will adapt and the ocean will clean its self. Again NO i am not saying leave it to nature. We should clean up our own messes.

no OT. Oil is a natural product, but so is methane or carbon monoxide or arsenic. but they kill and harm. We simply change things to what they shouldnt be. The ocean will heal and clean, but he Gulf is changed now. for a long time.

I have a feeling his whole argument is based on a party stance, but that is rather incorrect. The scale of humanity and the impact that can be made is huge and humanity has the potential to destroy the earth, easily. The earth always will try to heal, but in order for that to happen we have to give it a chance rather than pushing it past its capacity everyday, something we were doing without this oil spill anyways

Party line? Really? Which Party thinks we can destroy the earth?

I think it is of supreme arrogance that a human being thinks he can undo the work of the almighty. as a race we can scar this planet but we cannot destroy it. we can end our selves and many of it species. but to destroy this planet?

That beliefe would be the height of arrogance IMHO

depends on what level of destruction you want to. Theoretically, we CAN wipe out 90% of life in the Earth's surface, us included in it duh, but to my knowledge, it is impossible to destroy the planet itself.

so far...lol

I think this whole thing is pretty pathetic. Its Foreshadowing that the human race will eventually destroy itself and probably other species as well.

In response to "they dont know the full size of the hole"

How long has it been? Its not impossible. Its called Sonar. Ya'know the thing that identified the entire mid ocean rift, the thing that keeps Subs from crashing.

I don't have any suggestions yet to how they should stop the leak but we have experimental methods of destroying hurricanes and yet we cant fix this leak.

I live in Florida, and ive swam in the Gulf. To let that shit into places such as that is like slapping god in the face.

Cocoa beach is one of the most peacefull and relaxing places ive ever been. And the everglades are one of a kind. Whats worse is that they want to put more oil rigs 3 miles off the coast of Florida. Are you fucking kidding me? Get that shit out of here! 3 miles is within visual range. This will seriously affect tourism. I dont know about you but i dont want to go to the beach and be forced to look at some damn ugly rigs out there. And i wouldnt want to swim were oil is potentialy washing up.

Sometimes I wish that I were 5 years old again so i wouldnt have to worry about the economy, world peace, or the ecosystem.

as in the Republican stance of Global Warming as phony etc. but if ur not thinking that way then its fine. I just dislike it when ppl don't think for themselves.

Hmmm yes, what i meant basically was make this planet uninhabitable under regular conditions. For the msot part. The dying out of humanity is the death of the planet, since the planet will have served its purpose as God's testing grounds. Is he going to question the trees or smth on Day of Judgement to check if they can go hell or heaven? no point really.,

For a Christian the final judgement is not something to fear. we look forward to it cause we know where we are going.

I would think a Muslim would be in the same mind set...

To Disturbed: There aren't that many republicans that say that global warming doesn't exist, though some.
To Dray: I don't think it really has anything to do with Judgement Day, I also think that there is a reason for everything, and that there are some things such as the oil spill, that everyone should come together to try to fix, no matter your race, religion, culture, etc.

Now, if you are taking a religious standpoint, you have different standpoints and it isn't easy to generalize how most would think. Some would say God does everything that happens, while some would say that God watches all that happens and is able to make good come from it.

actually most Muslims would be scared. Noone guarantees us heaven, there's a shitload of work that goes towards getting there with strict guidelines. Hell, I can be sent to hell for excessive swearing even if I love God and believe in him...

But totally OT.how'd we get here. OH yeah, n2m that 90% of muslims are shitty muslims that don't even knw what's in their book.

Not even worth my time.

the only person here that SEEMS to have done ANY research is Aard and you guys are berating him for defending BP or suggesting things that are to outlandish to even be considered.

Knee jerk reactions do nothing to fix a problem, they usually only make them worse. There is enough blame in this to go around from BP to the federal government.

I will not offer ways to plug the hole because i have no idea how, though i have heard of some success of using low yield nuclear devices to plug similar holes in Russia. not sure how successful it actually was tho.

tort reform is basically proof that tort reform doesn't do anything and that regulators need to be less accessible by private interests. Honestly, we should just nationalize oil, there is no competition, there is no "pushing design" just fat cats making money, the profit margin is too big for them to actually go and CREATE green things and alternatives. Capitalism doesn't plan for the extinction of resources or animals.
