It IS disrespect when you piss off a group of people. What, they chose to be pissed off because they were respected? I dont think so. That is what empathy is for, to see things through anothers eyes. Just because you are not insulted and cannot even come close to understanding why they would be offended by a simple drawing does not mean you should not respect and honor the wishes of the other because asking someone to not draw their diety is NOT AN UNUSUAL OR HARD REQUEST TO MAKE. IN fact, there is even common sense involved in asking people not to depict their god.

That is correct. If they are just trying to rebel against the media and show they don't care who gets offended, it is complete disrespect. Like Champ said, it's really not that hard to listen to that request. South Park mocks Jesus in a few of their episodes, but most Christians do not say anything because rarely do Christians ask not to depict Jesus or ask them to stop with things such as that. But to not depict Muhammad is something that Muslims have been asking for generations and to disregard their opinion is disrespect. Are you arguing more against censorship or how what they are doing it is not disrespectful?

Fine Champ, how would YOUchoose to support freedom of speech without intimidation by NOT using a current media event? Why would it offend them? That not EVERYONE worships their god? That is ridiculous, if they are truly faithful, you wouldn't care.

I can't understand why any religion would want to control MY actions, who cares if I draw mohammed or jesus or buddha, or Vishnu, or anything like that, if they don't want me to complete an action, then they are trying to rule over me. It isn't scandalous, this is a secular society, but we allow freedom of worship. These people have a legitimate ersponse to a media event.

Post by Disturbed Thu May 20, 2010 6:52 pm

like I said, noone cares if you want to draw whatever you want at your home, but publicly running around trying to express so - called freedom of speech by pissing off just about everyone who follows that religion. They have a legitimate but stupid response to free speech. First of all, why not go out and protest the extreme censorship that goes on in your news channels and how much the lack of true information is an insult to free thought. I believe that is much more important than drawing Mohammad (PBUH) ....tbh the only reason ppl are doing this is to piss ppl off...and this will tick off every Muslim not just extremists.

I have a feeling I'm gonna have to quote this post 10 times in a row to ur next few responses if past experience is anything to go by

I have a feeling that was flame baiting, don't get so worked up, we have different opinions on this.

Now, if they were meaning to do this ONLY to anger people, I would say that is morally wrong, but cannot be prevented under free speech.

If they are protesting the radical Muslim response to a cartoon not EVEN REALLY depicting Mohammed, and the right to freedom of speech without intimidation. Like I said, how would you do this without using a current media event.

Before we go on, I feel the need to make clear that I more adamantly support Islam as a religion than any other because I understand the history behind it and how it has been influenced greatly by Western countries and I hate the stupid reactions people have towards Muslims, mistrust and such.

oh btw, what censorship? I need an example so that I can comment, we have censorship due to the security of our country, that is reasonable, is that what you are talking about?

Because YOUR actions offend THEIR GOD. A GOD. Do you understand what it is like to believe and actually CARE about what a GOD thinks? If not, then you have no right to even consider beginning to draw anything about their religion. See you keep talking about the human and its needs with no regard to humanity. To me, that makes a person little more than an animal because an animal only cares about breeding, its survival, eating, shitting, pissing. Humanity is a unique gift in that we are not only aware of our existence but we can empathize and pity and honor and so many other emotions tied to it. And all that leads down the same road, a simple respect for others harmless wishes. Its a harmless request to ask one not to disrespect a diety who has asked that humans, his creation not draw or depict him in any way. Yes, it applies to you as well because they love God and to them, you are merely a lost sheep. Now if the group asked me not to draw God at ALL, in any way shape or form, that would be a bit extreme and the opposite could be said, that they are not respecting MY humanity. If they merely ask that I not draw Allah or Muhammed, then I will never even consider such, it would be a disrespect to my fellow man like rape or theft or any other violation of their personal dignity.

If I ask you to stop posting because the Amish don't like technology, would you?

Religious beliefs are personal, what happened to a secular society?

You also avoided my question.

How would you support the right to freedom of speech without intimidation without using a current media event that people are outraged about, I.E, the death threats to the cartoonists who didn't even depict mohammed, but implied it, but at the end, it was santa claus?

btw I am a deist.

Asking someone to not use technology is an unreasonable request. You know this because its common sense. Anyone who can execute common sense can see the difference between asking someone not to use technology, and asking someone not to draw a picture.

And I would not support the "Right" to freedom of speech because I do not believe in it. I think freedom of speech breeds hate, violence and anger and is a good idea in theory like communism, but poorly executed and its "not ready" for most humans much like communism is not. I would like nothing more than to see laws shutting down these idiot skinheads and racists and black panthers and yellow this and pink that and whatever that speaks or breeds hatred towards anyone else. There is your answer.

ah the dilemma....but what makes a human if he is void of emotions? makes him a machine and nth else.

what if he is void of reason? makes him an animal and nothing else.

it is hard to make us 'ready' for freedom of speech or communism, when we have so much to lose by doing so. i think that is what defines us. the mission to fight agianst our inner evils. of course they will always come out, but hate is sometimes a necessary sensation. channeling it for a productive effect is what we should do. not suppress it or use it in unnecessary, moronic and stupid ways. like, ooooh, trying to express freedom of speech by insulting muslims, wether they protest or not, it is still an insult.(dont even say it wasnt mohammed nihil, their intention is clear and covering up like that wont help them). Maybe i should put up a commercial on tv sayin "Rachel Maddow is a whore and a sell out, and Keynesan economics is an attempt to make us into a dictatorship". Say what you will, but if you actually saw this on tv, you would be upset Nihil. Wether it is their right or not to express themselves freely, it is an insult.

Btw, the death threats kinda make the muslims lose reason on this. Protest if you will, that's fine, but learn to control yourselves a bit.

Some muslims truly and deeply feel holiness towards god and they feel deep rooted anger about the issue because of that and its displayed as such. I understand those emotions.

And to answer your question Dray, I think a united brotherhood worldwide would not need war, we could channel our inbred aggression and anger through other means, be it video games, sports or many psuedo-war like games.

Just sayin, Muslims used to be very calm in asking that, it isn't some new rule radical Muslims ask, they have been asking for decades. Apparently their calmness made them vulnerable and when they were mocked, some of them felt the need to use radical opposition.

Sure I would be unhappy about that, its called libel and slander, and false advertising, but I wouldn't care, because, obviously, you are entitled to your opinions, but, I know, through facts, that Keynesian Economics is a valuable Fiscal tool.

I think you guys should watch the video again, those are my arguments.

Basically, debate the video, that is where I'm getting my arguments.

Mmmmm, another thing, check out my news thread and post what you want there, comments on the news, I don't debate it.

+rep. Nihil I posted at least 2 different examples of how you could better express freedom of thought and speech than trying to piss ppl off. Do you know what this really does, and how 99% of Muslims feel? And I feel this way too...this is just people showing their true colors and uniting in their dissent towards Islam in general, and showing true hatred which is what they accuse the Taliban of, yet the Taliban have yet to send such malice towards the US, BEFORE being attacked.

Just shows the difference in thought levels and respect between the two, I myself was rather saddened, I wanted to believe the majority of ppl were above that and were not so ignorant in thought but I have been proved wrong.

then there are no values in this world by your logic, and evth should fall into a psichopathic anarchy. Stop trying to be in the future or the past. You are in the present, and it is the present you must follow. I hold no grudge towards Aztec's or Chinese, because their minds and culture was completely warped in another world. But you are not in that world, your in this one.

Basically, i watched the video, i know where your arguments are coming from, but you fail to counter argue back, so that's that. Come back when you have a solid proof that this act was useful/worthy/necessary/whatever.

Also, I'm not quite sure I understand how asking me never to depict mohammed, in a nondescript way, is fair, "you shall not depict the prophet mohammed", that should be the end of discussion.
