lotr is not abt point A to point B. And aard, that is one of the few places I was disappointed with the movies, it was never 9ppl vs a whole army of orcs, it was more abt war but in the beginning when they were travelling they did not face armies and come out on top. The only one who could do that was gandalf and he only uses his magic once against a pack of wargs/wolves. That's it. Star Wars no doubt has a huge quantity of books/toys etc. but Lotr books easily outclass any star wars book ever made. I've read some Star Wars books and they were good, but they looked like they were simply rehashing the series over and over to whore the ppl off of more money. Another thing I like abt tolkien enterprises is that it rarely tries to rape ppl of their well earned money just by using its name.

even if their super amazing, just as in movie industrial impact SW wins, in books, Lotr wins hands down in impact by a far far margin, both in impact and quality

I actually read quite a lot Dist, I just want things to HAPPEN in my books. There was so god damn much time spent on description and minor detail that it bored me to death.

oh ok, yeah the detail could get a bit deep in the beginning, but if it wasn't the movies never would have been that well made, tolkien literally gave them the exact setting for everything, that's why I had no problem picturing how the scene would look in my head and the Lotr movies made it look like what I thought in my head. Which is the first movie to get close to that. Compare that to Eragon, which is a Lotr rip off with a little less detail, and see how the movie for that came out.

You'd be as turned off by long descriptions as I am if you'd read the original Le Morte de Arthur. God that book was fucking boring.

I read the original Le Morte de Arthur and it wasn't too bad. The nagain it was for a lit class so I payed more attention, but still wasn't bad. The detail in Tolkiens book is why I like him so much. It's amazing what he can describe and how well. I really dont care if it takes forever to read, if I can get a good mental picture, the better for me.

I don't like unnecessary length, it's a waste of time to me, sum something up as quickly as possible that will still get your point across.

Thats not Tolkiens style though. He was good at painting word pictures, he could still get to the point but it wasn't his writing style.

Well, most movies and books would be nowhere without some medieval aspect. So you may not like it, but you owe it a lot.

There was more in there than that. You're just zooming in on combat aspect. There is more in the plot. Most good love stories or plot lines come from around that time era or have some influence in one way or another.

and to stop that influence bullshit argument, ill tell you right now that era was influenced by greek tragedy and theater, the culture that started the art of representation. wich by its own, has origins in the primitive shaman stories of the nomads. tired of the 'it borrows from this' argument.

i like star wars more then lotr, For a couple of reasons, George lucas turned his movies into something more, star wars evolved into a way of life and now is pretty unlimited. lotr is in a way the same but it takes place in such a small area of a world. in star wars hole planets are blown away, making it vast in places. you can experience way different environments and storys. star wars is way more in depth. And frodo and sam have some sexual tensions they need to solve.(i think the movie should of made sam a chick)
