You can get a nice laptop for casual gaming under $500. I met a guy at a computer show selling an i5 with 3 GB and a decent card for $300, only thing was the HDD was only 40GB ehich can still do you for 2 years of storage.

Yes well I'm talking average usage, not pirating movies and games, and keeping programming files, I'm talking about the average user that stores a few songs, his Word documents, some pictures, a few games, and little else. As for quality, I think it was an HP so it'll work as long as you keep your activities legitimate and don't play hockey with it.

That doesn't give me much, here answer these:

Speed(RAM):
Average(2-4 GB), Fast(6-8GB), or Blistering(8-16GB)

Games(Chipset, motherboard, gfxcard):
Plays anything out NOW at low quality(Dual Core/i3 + card with 512MB RAM and support for DirectX 9.0c and Shader 3.0), Plays anything out NOW at high quality(Quad Core/i5 + card with 1GB RAM and support for DirectX 10 and Shader 4.0 ), Will play anything now and for the next year or so(Hex Core/i7 card with 1.5GB RAM and support for DirectX 11 and Shader 5.0), or WAY MORE THAN YOU NEED(Octa Core/i9 + a card with specs that aren't common yet).

Storage:
Do you want to store: Music(160GB), movies(320GB), games(+500GB), or any combination of the three on your laptop(1 or more TB).

That'll work. These two are all I can come up with as I gotta go, but I'll take a look again later. The first is a bit above spec and comes in at $650, the second is more in line with what you said and is under $600 but can't be posted for whatever reason.
