He also couldn't swallow his spit, seriously, he talked like Daffy Duck.
Freedom of speech doesn't give you the right to sell shit to minors. What next? Should we legalize giving porn to minors because porn also falls under freedom of speech? Freedom of speech doesn't mean you can show whatever you want to whoever you want, despite what American ignorance says about the matter. Violent/Graphic media in any way, shape, or form, exerts an influence on people, most certainly minors.
EDIT: Should I necropost in the old one or just leave this one here?

Re: Selling M rated games to minor a crime?
I'd say its common sense: ESRB
ESRB was made for the reason that some tobacco laws state you must be of certain age to buy this product. For those who don't know what ESRB is ESRB stands for Entertainment Software Rating Board. Which rates games on there content. Which is why GTA is rated M or Mature. It also goes in context of the parents or legal guardians of the children. I think that having a fine against you for selling a M rated game to a minor is a little... overzealous. Ofc its up to the legal system but there should be some amendments to the law if it does pass...

Who gives a crap. The kid wanted the game, sell it to him. It's not going to destroy his body's growth

Beer is, albeit fucking harmless, lets call it a 'toxic' selling product. If consumed, itll(albeit FUCKING HARMLESS) harm the health of a person(id rather use whisky as an example then beer). Videogames harm your kids NO MORE THAN TV DOES SPIDEY. ARE YOU GONNA SUE HBO BECAUSE YOUR KID IS WATCHING IT? honestly, you talk of videogames as if its some drug kids take. its not. its media. tv, music, fucking books(if you want an example, i reiterate you to Twilight), ALL media has content made for adults. Video games are NO different. its just this idea that the video game industry is for the age span of 8-15 or sth. ITS NOT. its been proven, over and over, that the majority of gamers are young adults. selling M rated games to a minor should be a possible infraction, but the big problem isnt that, its the possible(very unlikely) removal of video games from the First Amendment, making them stop being a media, like tv and music, and start being a substance, like heroine or scotch.

i realize beer prob isn't the best example i could have used... im just saying that there is an age limit for a reason.. protection... buzz plays games like GTA and such.. because his mom buys them for him... i think if the parent thinks that the child can handle it cool.. but it shouldn't be up to the guy at gamestop to make that decision... he should ask for id... thats the point i was trying to make
also.. this is why i normally stay out of the pit

I don't like kids and after playing GTA4 I would not let anyone under the age of 16 play that game. Hell maybe even 21.

Its the same shit just more graphic and realistic. I saw murder, strip clubs, literal sex with prostitutes, sex with non-prostitutes, more murder and extreme language along with extreme "life styles" as well as playing one cold hearted son of a bitch as a character.

Re: Selling M rated games to minor a crime?
I don't like GTA4 too. The language... like... they use "fuck" "asshole" and other nasty words every minute. San Andreas isn't much better. I had only San Andreas... But I've seen people playing GTA4 and I have played it too (not on my comp) It's not much better than San Andreas, really just a little bit more realistic and filled with twisted and kinky things >.<

Re: Selling M rated games to minor a crime?
Some Art graphically shows sexual acts or violent/disgusting imagery and yet we let children not even past the elementary level into see exhibits like this all the time. We do this because Art isn't specifically meant to show these, it does it sometimes to prove a point, but it is meant to be pornographic or violent by nature. Games aren't specifically meant to show these either, although some do, and most games do not do this out a specific want but because it helps to illustrate another point. Could this point be made without it? Yes, but then again artistic points could be made without graphic imagery as well.
So where's the line? Where do we in good conscience say THIS will hurt or damage someone, but this other won't?

Re: Selling M rated games to minor a crime?
GTA San Andreas was FUUUUUUUUUUN as hell. You could do anything. drive anything, fly anything, go anywhere, steal, kill, tune up your car, do side jobs as taxi, police, fireman, paramedic, play basketball, bowling(dont remember well) play arcade, you had tons of radio that were fucking hilarious to listen to, you had tons of easter eggs and funny references, you had a vast amount of mod community, you had races of all kinds, you had collectables, and it had a thrilling story, altou a bit unrealistic and not too deep, it was fun to go thru it. Overall, it was a good game, and the violence and the sex didnt affect me, because it was part of the game, and a really tiny part of it. But they wanted to illustrated all. you had crackheads and hookers in the street and gangs killing each other. I felt like i was living in a warzone, wich is what those areas are.
GTA4....better story, poorly narrated. The story is absolutely beautiful, but the characters are introduced in a bad way, and they dont narrate it well. I THINK they should of put more time trying to improve the story, because GTA4 does not have all the fun gta san andreas had. it misses a lot of it, so it should of had a better story to compensate. Personally, i dont think Halo or Call of Duty are better than GTA4. You rack up MANY more deaths in those games than in GTA. Sure they dont have sex, and strip clubs but oh well, those are there because they have to be there. GTA is always about the underlife of society.
Oh and its rated M, wich to people who have kids under 18 means they shouldnt have this in the fucking house.

Re: Selling M rated games to minor a crime?
I can't believe they still make games like this. These games to me are utterly repulsive and should be taken off the shelves. There is absolutely no reason to show the sexual aspect of that life. The point of the game is to commit felonies to get better ratings. That's not the entire point, but it's most of it and sickens me. Games like this easily fall into the hands of kids who don't need to play it. I don't think anyone should be playing such games that promote that kind of behavior. JA is violent but it's fantasy violence, GTA isn't.

Re: Selling M rated games to minor a crime?
HMM hmm, i suppose Metal Bands should stop making music, and The Sopranos should stop being aired in HBO too Aragorn? Your logic is flawed. These games are no more available, even less, tha violence and sex in TV or music. GTA has always been a fun game. It is not horrible, and there is no 'ratings' for how many people you kill or how many hookers you hire. I wonder if you have even played GTA 4? It needs character development, but the setting of the game is absolutely amazing, the map design is brilliant, the jokes are....well they are good, not the best, but ok. I mean there is one part you see one of the people you hanged around with just murdered in front of you over a triviality and, i at least, felt shocked, and i liked seeing the main protagonist shocked at it as well. What i find wrong is that Niko is missing character depth, and if he had more straight forward choices it would be easier to connect to him. But of course, people cant get past the strip clubs and the prostitutes....ITS JUST SO IN YOUR FACE IN THAT GAME(not). That game is not for kids, it is for people who have grown up.

Re: Selling M rated games to minor a crime?
Thst is not logic is is an opinion. you seem to take things said by others at face value seeing flaws in logic and refusing to see your own. Yes there have been some pointed out but you have refused time and again to budge. Being obstinate does not mean you are right Dray.
There is a difference between opinion and logic, not all opinions are logical and logic does not make some one agree.
I agree with my son that these games should not be out there and, since they are, they should be more tightly controlled. That is an Opinion. You also have the freedom to buy these games but the thing most forget is that with freedom comes responsibility. if you have those games in your house keep the kids from playing them. Do not let the kids watch you play them because games, music, art effect the way you think and act. color schemes have been proven to effect your mood and music can calm you down or get you worked up.
Yes i also agree that Porn is to readily available on the net. There are, how ever, may applications and filters that you can put on your computers and networks to block that stuff. But thats right many of you are against blocking access to anything under the guise of freedom of speech. Thing is, my network, my rules. My house, my rules. i have a filter on my network that blocks many sites based on porn and ultra violence. I did what i could to protect my kid from this crap.
