Free Speech for Videogames Empty Free Speech for Videogames

Post by Dray The Fingerless Thu Sep 02, 2010 9:59 pm

This show, Extra Credits, is probably one of the best media outputs about videogames that i have seen thru the entirety of my life. They speak so well and inform you so nicely, exposing you to every fact important, and are able to do it in such a simplistic way, WHILE catching your attention thru the whole minutes of their videos. I urge you guys to start watching them, they trully are good voices of the videogame community. This video in particular, is important because it speaks about the milestone that will happen this year in America, the fact that the Supreme Court is going to judge wether or not video games should be covered in the First Amendment. Hugely important event. It can affect the industry throughout the globe, not to mention, this is one of teh few industries in america that is blossoming the last years. This is becoming an important export for the USA, and since it houses major companies of videogames, it affects the market in its entirety.

Watch the video please, and if you wish to hear more from Extra Credits, i cna give you the links.

I wouldn't mind seeing more of this. He brings up good points because I have played games that honestly made me think much more so then several books, and movies I've watched.

Video games for all intents and purposes are open code. That gives artistic license. I fail to see why this is even being argued. I hope the supreme court wipes its ass with this and we can all move on.

The Supreme court is full of senile old fools with as much wisdom as a toddler and half as much common sense.

You'd be surprised with the amount of reason they can display. I am usually pleased with most of their rulings.

These guys normally dont speak about things outside the gaming industry, usually they speak about things like future of MMOS, the events that lead to the death of survival horror genre, things like that. They just started working for The Escapist.

This is a link to all their videos in The Escapist. They send out one per week.

I agree. They do display a fair reason of wisdom. I hope to God that this court doesnt fall in decline like the rest of the American ruling system. They are a nice failback for things of importance.

Well said. I have worked in the court system and I had entire shifts where I just read rulings and I think people underestimate the wisdom involved. They have to judge things based on practical reasoning, not personal experience. Thus just because they are old does not mean they will not realize the infringement of free speech this will cause. I would be shocked if it was ruled any other way.
