im an idiot

so awhile back I bought the new slim xbox 360, and like an idiot when i was trying to transfer my data from one hard drive to my new xbox 360 I reconfigured the hard drive and it wont read at all I just was able to find somewhere that I may be able to still recover the data by using some kind of data recovery program, can anyone help me out?

That's perhaps the least specific bug report I've seen Bob. Try telling us EXACTLY what you did. Did you use your computer to try to transfer the files or did you use a 360 program off your Xbox? Was the HDD used or new? What do you mean by "reconfigured" did you erase the OS or just erase the 360 data on it such as profile information?

well I don't exactly remember what I did it was back in November... all I remember was I hooked up my old 150 gig HDD to my new xbox using a microsoft transfer cable and hit the wrong option and now the HDD wont even read as a storage device and I lost all my information off of it...

Using a transfer cable only prompts you with whether or not you want to transfer the data and from which device. It doesn't let you format the drive last time I checked.

Huh ironically i was talking to my brother-in-law on this sorta thing. I haven't heard anything about recovering it, but i think if you take it to a computer shop or that effect they'll put in a new hard drive and such in. Problem is... any game on the original hard drive you had will be erased, point being you'll have to start all over again. Or just go buy a new Xbox. I know i'm not much help but i figured you'd be able to pull something out of this. XP

@aard well the thing is, it never prompted me to do that so i looked around and pushed something and boom i fucked up my hard drive lol. does anyone know of any good free recovery software?

If you managed to format it Bob you won't be able to do it from a home PC, you'll need to get it taken care of professionally.

by mistake I hit remove xbox 360 storage and now it wont read... that is what I did, is there a way to fix that?

Bob, I doubt those saves still exist. The reason it won't read is because you deleted the Xbox OS it had.

no there are still files there I found a free recovery program but it made me pay to actually recover the files... can you recommend any free recovery files that will actually let me recover the files for free?

install Ubuntu and access the HDD thru it, then copy what yoiu want from there. OH WAIT, XBOX FAGGOTRY. NVM what i said.
