Should I switch from Vista to Ubuntu?
well I've had no problem with vista for a long time, But now that Im doing alot more things on my laptop, I've noticed some problems.
Should I do it, and if I do what are the pro's and con's.

Partition the drive and install Ubuntu. Windows is still there as a back-up and you can still use it to game if you want, but you also get the quick and simple low-RAM Ubuntu to do the simple stuff.

Re: Should I switch from Vista to Ubuntu?
Mind telling me a little more about that, im not really tech savvy when it comes to installing OS.
also Im going to go get a cd so I can run Linux from the cd, I want to test it first before, I really get into this.
Also thought it would be good to post my system specs.
ps.Thought Id post my system specs.
Os=Windows Vista Home Premium
System type=X86-based PC
Processor=Amd Turion 64 Mobile technology
Ram=1 gig
Video card=Nvidia Geforce go 6100
as you can see my computers pretty weak,thats why I thought of switching to Linux.

Re: Should I switch from Vista to Ubuntu?
If you can get a hold of a 9.4 version CD(Under NO circumstance get 10.4 it can corrupt your HDD) then it gives you the option to automatically partition the drive. All partitioning does is give the drive the means to store information in both Windows format and Linux format and while each will take up room separately that doesn't mean the drive is completely divided the only room taken up by one specific operating system over the other is what you choose to save in each.
And my parents run a partitioned computer with 32-bit Pentium 4 2.56Ghz, factory gfx card, and 2 GB of RAM. As you can see most of those specs are below your own and their computer runs fine with the partition.

Re: Should I switch from Vista to Ubuntu?
Alright Ill try that out.
also when you partion it does it take up alot of Hard drive space.
I have a 110 Gb hard drive, and I only have about 9 gigs left.
also does that version still have the nice looking interface and effect like in this vid.
I like to have a interface thats pleasing to the eye.

Partitioning doesn't work like that it's still just a matter of what you SAVE just that Linux files and mostly inaccessible to Windows and vice versa. OK so you have a 160 GB hard drive, you install both Linux and Windows, you still have that 160 to play with in either system.

9.1 or 9.04 would be the best version to go with.

No...Vista only eats about 300 mb RAM, 1gb is enough for vista and 7.

Re: Should I switch from Vista to Ubuntu?
Directly? Yes but it requires some coding by the user. Better way is to just save the files to a flash drive and then boot into Ubuntu and save them in the Ubuntu file tree. If you really want direct access I can give you a link to a site that tells you how to do it.
