One thing to say...
Stagnation in our industries and the realization of consumer loyalty and irrational planning and judgement, not using all your resources to find the lowest price, makes it incredibly hard for some areas of the economy to move faster, that is, to adjust quicker to the differences from consumer preferences. Consumers are not rational, admit it people, you've bought more than one type of pencil, and thats because it doesn't matter to you, but over time, on a larger scale, I think this trickles down slowly and causes the market not to be as competitive.
and also iron, that is help, raising the duties and tariffs, of course, it could, in the long run, damage the company, but, in the short term, is allowing them to catch up to the more advanced and entrepreneurial Japanese makers.
Also, to Behalok, you are right, in theory, but, when prices are low, people can buy and buy and have a merry time, but then, when everyone has everything? Severe economic depression, on the scale of the Great Depression, we are a consumer based society that operates solely by spending, whether by government or citizens, not to mention that they have to give their workers a living wage so that they don't die, because of government protection. Now this may slow growth in the short term, it gives rise to steady, healthy, and fair growth in the future.
Ptolemy, the company could charge way less than that for their product, but thus is one of the many downs of a capitalist system, by judging what portion of people will buy when, relative to prices, they can make the most money at consumer expense. But, like I said, with no rivals, like for the Ipad, or consumer loyalty, like Vista.
That slow affect FINALLY caught up as Apple FINALLY Surpassed Microsoft.
Which goes back to my central point, these things move slowly through the market economy, sadly, due to human imperfections.
But on the upside, we get these culture and life changers, like the Apple Ipod!
