Champ, if you think I'm racist... I can't even express how ludicrous that thought is... I may joke around, but that's all it is, a JOKE. I don't seriously go around, calling African-Americans "niggers" or Chinese people "Chinks." If anyone does that near me, I tell them to kindly stfu, cause that's not something I like to be around

Dray The Fingerless wrote:funny, becuz society is reflected by what the world knows of it. and what the black society lets out to the world to know is that the word nigga is over used amongst them. in fact, it is more valuable what a person with little interaction knows then one who has bathed in deep in the society itself. so a casual bystanders opinion about
"so what do you think of Irish people?"
"uh, i dont know. they like drinks, bars n fighting..."
that reflects how the world looks at them. and the world looks at black community as in using the term nigga quite blatantly. sure once you dig in it, it becomes less simple, but the problem is what they let the world see.
also, yes i know quite some black people and have interacted with them.
Thats just your opinion. One which you formed on your own. Have you never heard that in debate you always say "I" and not "We"?

Just because one does not think himself a racist does not mean is not a racist.
In truth, all of us have "tribalistic" tendencies. Its only when we remove a healthy perspective of that does it become racist. Pride in ones own cultural heritage is normal, but once it grows into the warlike attitude of racism it becomes an ignorant problem.

Re: Racism
I didn't read it all, but here is my opinion, i'll try to post a video i watched on MSNBC about race too at the end.
Racism sucks, the Romans had a fucking part African emperor, the Familia Severi, the Severus lineage was partly from Native Africans.
RAcism has caused such an undeniable world of pain on Black men and women in America and across the world, and this is reflected in their culture too as a result.
There is also no Genetic difference between Blacks, Whites, Asians, and Hispanics.
In fact, Black Scientists have trained themselves since early times in Science in America, just look at Benjamin Banneker.
If you are racist, my message to you is this, STFU and GTFO, go and read some books, learn.
Races usually have cultures that form around them.
I like to believe, as such, that racism is dead today, except in some cases, and is usually now defined as a hatred of culture.

Re: Racism
I must counter that there are genetic differences, just so subtle compared to other forms of speciation that it is a moot point and argument. The real genetic point here, is that any human can mate with another human and produce viable offspring. When that occurs in nature, they are considered the same race, regardless of slight genetic differences.

Re: Racism
Actually Champ, if they aren't TRYING to be a racist, then they're not. Ignorant perhaps, but to be racist you have to actually intend harm. As for the rest, I agree with Dray. Why do I have to apologize for something I've never been party too, that my family has never been party too, and while a horrible incident in history, has nothing to do with today. Your Great Great Grandfather was a slave? I'm very sorry he had to go through that. Now can I try to lighten your mood by telling you a joke I believe is funny, or do I need to apologize for everything my race has done first, even though I had nothing to do with it?

Apologize, no,
try to fix, yes.
The weight of such an egregious sin is still tangible in today's world in many ways.

Why do I have to fix something I've never been party too? Why can't we just be on equal terms and treat each other like people? Asking me to fix something that not even my ancestors have been guilty of is wrong plain and simple. And to tell me it's my duty to them to fix it, is in fact racist on their part.

Re: Racism
Yes, it is our job to fix it, to make reparations to a people still facing hard times today by fault of slavery, oppression, ETC. by no choice of their own. Besides, racism is undue oppression, i don't think fixing such a gigantic problem is oppression.
But, here is my question, I've always kind of wondered this,
If we stopped teaching about slavery and racism, then people can't have those ideas, and if we do, people can toy with those ideas, should we stop teaching it?

Re: Racism
What reparations should we be making? We have done nothing to them to oppress them for decades now. They're on their feet, they have jobs, homes, power, fame, as much as any other culture. How far do we have to go, do we need to enslave ourselves to them, do two wrongs make a right?
No keep telling people of history, just don't explain racism.

Re: Racism
In the south they faced severe oppression up till the 60s, that means that one poor, desperate, unprotected, and disenchanted family gave birth to a son during this time who lived through, and gave birth to a daughter upon whom the anger, fear, and bewilderment still rub off on.
Secondly, the majority of African-Americans were in the south, and being oppressed in both the north and south, as it was, caused them, no doubt, to develop the culture that is today, one that lacks focus on educational goals.

It doesn't change the fact that they're equal now. They have all the opportunities to succeed and screw up as a white guy. So what exactly do we owe them now?

Re: Racism
I will stay out of the whole reparations thing.
I feel its everyones obligation to care regardless of who did it or when it happened. Your sort of attitude is the reason why racists exist today. Because if everyone did not turn a blind eye because "it has nothing to do with them" then the racists would have no choice but to conform.
And to quote MLK
"We will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."

You seem to be missing a simple fact. They're equals in society, they have all the same opportunities, what is left to give? I'm not saying turn a blind eye to oppression, I'm saying enough is enough already.

They are NOT equals. Thats an illusion only written on paper. You telling me a black man can walk in an office building and have the same chance to secure a clerical position as a white man? I think not. Maybe in McDonalds or KFC or any fast food joint but NOT the good jobs. You have 0 experience in this, the only knowledge you have is heresay like Dray. I have seen it with my own eyes. Most employers will choose a white man over a black. Statistics PROVE this. In fact, the most undesirable "type" of person according to statistics, and the least paid is a black woman (followed by obese people IIRC).
And how can you say they both have equal opportunities when the white person comes home from school, can relax and study and get good grades while the black kid has to go out to his second job, the hustle and try to feed himself so he doesnt starve? I've seen it with my OWN eyes all too often in the ghetto. I can guarentee you without a doubt in my mind little Jermaine has NO chance to succeed compared to Sabastian the preppy middle class kid.
As a sidenote, the best thing the blacks could ever do is descriminate with THEIR own exployment, like the Jews do and did and raise themselves out of the ditch they are in. But thats for another discussion.

You seem to assume i have no contact with the black community, or that i have not seen discrimination towards black people. Since you like to assume that, ill assume you dont care for my arguments, so i assume to be out of this discussion.
On a last note, i never said discrimination doesnt exist, nor i said i would stand idly and watch it go by. i simply am tired of the cultural pressure that is put on me, a white guy, to be nicer to the black guy becuz hes black. if i help a black person, i would help a white person in the smae situation. the fact that statistically, black people are in more problems then white or other communities, is of no matter to me. i would help becuz they need it, as a individual. cleansing discrimination is up to them. they have the power now, and they can use it.

I assume that because your arguments sound like a parroted version of the usual sheltered, non-ghetto living typical white person. No offense, I have just argued this a million times on other forums. I do apologize however for making the assumption, it was rude and undebate like to do so.
And on your last point, LOL. A black person never expects people to be nicer to them, actually quite the opposite. I am sure they hold people in disdain who try to be nice because of their race. The only thing a black person truly wants is for people to view them not as black, but as human.

Re: Racism
I think color has less to do with that then reputation. You go in the ghetto and you're white, they stare at you like you've just killed their entire family. When you hear about gangs, 90% of the time it's black or hispanic. You hear about robberies, 60-70% of the time it's black or hispanic. Every employer isn't racist, but at the back of your mind you always review the worst you've heard about someone and how frequently you've heard it. Take a white guy that's a biker and I bet you he's just a likely to get the boot as any black man. Reputation and the way media represents a culture has more to do with employment then the color itself.
And no offense Champ, but I rarely see that happen. The good black people, the ones you can get along with like any other guy, just want to be treated like people, but there's also a large portion of welfare bums that believe you should treat them better because they're black. And don't give me shit about being in a protected suberb, I worked in the middle of Baltimore city, not the nice neighborhood either, for years. I have experience, and I'll admit, I have some black friends, but not many, but then again I can say the same of white friends. I get along with most anybody, doesn't mean we'll become friends, but I can get along with them while we'rei n the same room.

Re: Racism
I think color has less to do with that then reputation.
You tell that to a Hatian or Jamaican who appears "black" but has a totally different cultural inheritance. They are still treated as "niggers" to a racist. By that argument, I can say all white people should be viewed with the reputation of having caused the holocaust and every crime of humanity any white country has ever done.
You go in the ghetto and you're white, they stare at you like you've just killed their entire family.
Sorry I never had that experience. Maybe its the way you are looking at them that provokes that look back? I've lived in Trenton for years at one point in my life, a predominantly black community and not once did I notice an odd stare or was anyone rude to me.
When you hear about gangs, 90% of the time it's black or hispanic.
True but that is a whole other discussion that may stem from racism itself.
You hear about robberies, 60-70% of the time it's black or hispanic.
Yes and sadly its also mostly on blacks and latino victims. Also caused for other reasons that can be discussed.
Every employer isn't racist, but at the back of your mind you always review the worst you've heard about someone and how frequently you've heard it. Take a white guy that's a biker and I bet you he's just a likely to get the boot as any black man. This is true, but again this is caused due to reasons tied to other discussions stemming from racism.
And no offense Champ, but I rarely see that happen. The good black people, the ones you can get along with like any other guy, just want to be treated like people, but there's also a large portion of welfare bums that believe you should treat them better because they're black.
And there is a large portion of white disability bums who feel they are entitled because they are white. *shrugs*
