International Intervention. Empty International Intervention.

Post by Sqrl Sun Mar 20, 2011 1:13 pm

http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/africa/03/20/libya.civil.war/index.html?hpt=T1

As some of you know, the US has been watching the Libyan conflict very closely. As has the rest of the world it seems. The UN (US, French, British) intervened with the conflict by erecting a No-Fly-Zone over Libyan bases.

What are your thoughts concerning the UN's actions? And what do you think of this 'long-drawn war'?

Idk, they try to take care of themselves, but their leaders are killing them. What would you have them do?

the US goes in to intervene and asks for resources in the end, end of story. Kadafi gave them an excuse to attack by lying about the cease fire

They really need to have a Separate division of armed forces for UN you know that? I mean there are what five countries that have EVER volunteered resources to the UN? They need to make some sort of requirement for being part of the UN, here's a short list: 1. No human rights violations. 2. Must donate a small portion of current armed forces for UN use.

What does that have to do with the topic? Well if that happened maybe the U.S. wouldn't be blamed for every god damn thing the UN does.

Well true, however i don't mind us helping the rebels. It's just the fact that we (as in the UN) got into something we shouldn't have. I wouldn't mind it much if we supplied medical and other things to the rebels, but the whole 'No-Fly-Zone' was a little bit too much. I'd say that we should only interfere when either one of our forces are attacked. Not to provoke the Libyan gov't to attack the UN coalition. The UN may be helping the rebels fight off Kadhafi's forces but at what cost? It is however different as Dan said when Gadhafi is leveling cities just to destroy the rebels. As of now UN forces are attacking the installations in Tripoli, Misrata and Benghazi. Tripoli being the capital of Libya.

It is a war. He bombs strategic sites where rebels gather. You only see it as wrong because you are against Kadafhi. The UN should only intervene in cases of human depravation. If someone tried to depose the US government, would your government not fight back? I am not defending Kadafhi, i simply do not think we should intervene in something that is not our business. The world chooses to segregate itself into pieces. You dont get the right to have help without the duty of being united.

The people want it, they take it. Saying hes bombing cities is not an excuse. War is ravaging. As the nations and technology advance, so do the rebels. Rebels and the people have always been underdeveloped in comparison to their tyrannic opressors. Does not mean they are not able to win. In fact, more n more of Kadafhi followers break from him.

I'm not saying they will or will not win. I'm saying Gadhafi is desperate and he will fall. My pet peeve is why should the UN join in the fray and get itself FURTHER into conflict? Agreed UN should intervene in case of depravation, McCain (yes that bundle of joy) would love to see us ravage Gadhafi's forces via ground. I do admit though, as long as we play the supportive role in this i'm fine. But if it comes down to us invading Libya like Iraq, people are gonna be disgruntled. If not they are already.

this was all before there were 100 killa ton bombs that could decimate an entire city block of innocent civilians without them even knowing its coming so that point cant be used in this case even thought I know what your saying.

as of today we are bombing the shit out of the leader of Libya...

srsly let the place just bomb itself senseless then whatever side wins can cry over the fact they bombed everything they wanted

but if Un wants to send support fine just hope whoever supports doesnt cry when there own soldiers start dieing or complain about wasting money.......

Gadhafi at this point should be thinking less about winning and more about a strategic fuck u all

IE if he has some small nuclear arsenal detonate it
unleash all weapons he can find pretty much
then we can call the place Ghost Land

Nonsense. Utter nonsense. Genocides and killing of innocents, raping and pilaging cities(by the thousands or tens of thousands at times) has happened thru out history ALL THE TIME. England is a fine example of how fucked the people were from Roman siege up to Victorian times. why cant that point be used? Gadafhi cant just waste bombs wherever he thinks there are rebels. They crop like cockroaches. No matter how much decimation you try, if the people want to resist, there is nothing to do about it.

Also the bombings have ceased. They just took out anti air installations basically.

Somalia, don't intervene 800,000 people die

I'm not saying thats going to happen here, but seriously, we put this guy there, now we have to get rid of him, it is our obligation. Besides, he is a dictator. If we could save lives, we should.

A 50 caliber round to the head, heart, jugular, or femoral does that much more effectively then a "police action".

Assassinations are what makes us look bad. Plus there is a reason why we're trying to do this as a United Force so later on, when China does become the next World Power. They can't come off saying "oh look at what so and so country did before, why can't we?"

No matter how we take him out of power we'll be the bad guys, we're already the bad guys for agreeing to the no-fly zone. The World doesn't see "The UN setup a no-fly zone to stop indiscriminate bombing" they see "the U.S. is nosing in on other people's business again".

Well thing is we're being dumb at the moment. We've launched enough tomahawks in this short amount of days to almost equal half of what was fired in the Gulf War operation back in the 90s
