Hate speech is not covered in freedom of speech if it directly harms others. I tend to agree. While I think good humored trolling is okay, what that guy was doing is pretty sick and I do not find funny at all.

How did it directly harm others? Difamation i agree, harms people socially, can indeed harm people jobs and life quality. But was this difamation

From what I read the son was killed brutally, and this person was mocking the family.
