Lags....
Do something about that, please... My ping hasn't got below 300 for days now, and I'm sure my net is just fine, I do not lag on other servers. Checked my ping on speedtest.net and its 120-130 on servers located in DC.
I suggested a maintenance restart in my other post, yet no one gave a comment on that, so I'm repeating it right here...
Right now, no euro ping would go below 250.

To give an image of how bad this delay is: 100 ping stands for 100 miliseconds, so 0,1 of a second. If your ping is 300, you have 1/3rd of a second less to avoid n00bish dfa/butterfly/whatever spamz0rz.

You could have just reported, but you demanded and I'm tired of hearing demands so I'll restart the server when I feel like it.

Oh so JvS is still suffering from that lag?
The problem is obviously beyond Aard's control, if he could have fixed it he would have. Whining about it won't help.
If it bothers you so much...why play on the server? Go play somewhere else until its fixed.
Do a bit of research on how to setup your config, there is a guide here in the Techno Union. For example try typing in /rate 25000, it can help lower ping on certain servers.
In JKA(or any Quake 3 game) there is a default delay in the time it takes for you to get updated information from the server(enemy movement etc...), you can use /cl_timenudge to disable or enable this delay. Negative values lower the delay in time, a setting of -50 shuts it off completely. Enemy movements will be a lot choppier, especially enemies with high ping, but your attacks and movement will not be delayed nearly as much as before.
Lag effects everyone, especially on a MP damage server. I always have to aim 1/3 of a second faster then my opponents. Never aim for where they are, aim for they are going to be. The ability to compensate for lag by reacting premptively to your opponent is a vital skill that everybody needs to learn.

It's random, the lag isn't consistent because I've gone on and had no problems. I also know increasing maxrate with decrease lag for small numbers but it will increase it if the server gets busy.

moeher, you care too much about ping. Ping is just a reference number. It will never reflect the real delay you have in a server. Ping is a 'message' that is constantly bumped thru server and your pc. However, the delay of that message CAN and WILL be caused by other things besides the distance and delay time. That being said, 300 ping still reflects a high delay, but the server works perfectly fine for me and other people, europeans even, so understand there is nothing we can do. Perhaps you simply are in a crappy area to connect to our server. I suggest moving from your house to a new one. If you want some real estate sites and help, we can try and provide.

I have all my game cfg set up right, accordingly to tips given on some other forum. As for your last paragraph, I do know how to time my strikes and set 'traps' of a sort (which you should remember, if you remember me ;p ). My frustration comes not from the fact that I lag at all, because my ping just will be higher than that of an American player, but from the difference between my present delay and the one I'd had until few days ago, which I got used to and which didn't put me at such an unfortunate disadvantage.
I simply do not find it fun to fight like this, being hit by a phantom that pops up out of nowhere on your screen split seconds after that can't really delight anyone but perhaps the phantom itself...
Planning attacks is one thing, getting lagged to death another - when I die because of my mistakes, or when I die because someone is better than me, I have the chance to improve. When I die because someone used lunge 50 meters away from me, I can't do too much.

As I've said before, my ping had used to be 150ish until few days ago. Unfortunately, I see euro players quite often due to the timezone I'm in, and their pings are high - 200ish and above, also noticed a few guys with over 300.
Sorry to write such a huge post about something that I believe is obvious, but there still are people in this server I'd like to duel with all I've got.

Yeah i have huge lags too when there is lots of ppl on the server. But its cause im too far away from the server. Mb thats ur problem too?
PS Also, mb u r playing on the server when its rly much ppl around? Server get overloaded, even crashed sometimes.

This topic is about lag in general. My ping is 300ish when there are just the bots on.
