Re: Christian Nation?
Way to zero in on my Nihil tweak and miss the point.
I am really talking about the time that the country was formed since that is when it really matters for the conversation.

Re: Christian Nation?
No, it isnt. The founders lived 200 years later, completely different society. Youre reasoning for this is the same reasoning saying our values descend from the egyptians. Evth today was influenced by the past. It is not a valuable argument to use the past as you are using it. What matters is whats written clearly and simple, in the founder's words, something that was meant to stay immortal and immovable. Yes their ideas were influenced by christianity, but christianity, when it was formed, was also influenced by traditional greek and roman religious figures and stories as well. Can i say the founders values were those of the greeks and romans? Yes because greeks and romans created the idea of democracy and senate, spreading the power more to the people. Did christianity pass that on? Certainly not, christianity supported monarchies.

Re: Christian Nation?
My beliefs on this are that the virtues and morality of the Bible influenced society for such a long time due to the church's authority, that it became common sense to abide by the basic virtues of the Bible. Not that the deist's of that time meant to parallel with the Bible, they just didn't really know how to abide much differently.

suck it
I think this is the first time Nihil has ever taught me anything new.
You people continue to try and label the USA. The problem with that is that the USA is an experiment in science and politics. The constitution was designed to be amended. Its OUR fault as Americans that some of the amendments in place are borderline unconstitutional or that some government action borders on personal invasion. WE are the ones who refused to say NO and then use force if needed to expel a government infringing on our rights. WE allowed the government to disarm us with laws and neuter our spirits with microwave dinners and drive in movies. Eh let me stop there.
