Guns dont kill people, people pull the trigger and kill people. Alcohol doesnt cause driving accidents, people who drink then drive cause driving accidents. Video games are not mind controlling, people allow themselves to get lost in them. etc etc its all about human responsibility in some form, and all mature adults need to hone up to each ones vice and regulate it.

Video games are not drugs, they do not have a physical element that is addictive to all humans like tobacco, any addiction to them is purely psychological. No video game can be TO addictive, at least not this generation of games. Maybe in the future when we have...holograms...then we could consider whether a game could be to addictive. But for now they are just pixels on a screen.

Hell I don't think drugs should be illegal either. We as people need to have responsibility for our actions.

Exactly. The lessons learned best are the ones that cost you. Maybe if we lose enough people due to stupid decision we'll finally figure out that as a country we are NOT intelligent and have abdicated any responsibility we have to our government.

Hmmmmm...I like the idea of allowing human stupidity to do some "natural selection" in this manner, but you gotta remember that stupid people never learn, ever. Contrary to what they think, mankind hasn't gotten any wiser, in fact it seems to be the most shit-headed its been in a while. Allowing stupid people to do stupid things has a negative effect on the not-so-stupid, take drunk driving for example. I dodge enough potheads and meth-fags as it is, lifting the ban on would only serve to breed an even more pathetic generation of mankind.

Besides, can you imagine what all those organized crime and drug rings are gonna do when their out of a job? Shocked

P.S: BTW, you just made me go...

Well we're still semi on-topic. This thread is about addiction and we're discussing the results of addiction and what regulating or deregulating would do. But drunk driving isn't a controlled substance, alcohol is legal although things you do with it can be illegal, same thing for drugs. Don't say "Oh hey drugs are fine so feel free to operate this bulldozer right next to the nursery any time." You make it legal to use, but make doing danger tasks under it's influence illegal much like alcohol.

Indeed. The problem isnt the drugs, its humans(which is the cause of all problems TBH). I would be absolutely okay with drugs if people used them in a proper way, just like alcohol. But people won't do that, they take drugs to get high just like many people drink only to get drunk. If we legalize drugs, we basically legalize their abuse. Drunkenness causes A TON of problems, and nobody cares because our culture makes getting drunk seem "cool" or "normal". The only thing I enjoy about drunkenness is getting to beat the shit out of drunks when they wonder into my yard(or house) and pull off some stupid shit. Alcohol causes enough problems alone because of people and their culture, imagine the chaos that would erupt if we legalized certain drugs.

I understand were your logic is with legalizing drugs Aard, and I agree that sometimes allowing people to screw themselves over and suffer the consequences can sometimes help people learn. But on a large scale, legalizing drugs would only make matters worse in the end, any temporary gain we get from people taking responsibility for their actions would be offset by all the crap that would come with it.

Regardless of what my opinion is, drugs will be legalized eventually. We(Canada/US) live in a society that suffers from the delusion that absolute freedom is the only thing that matters. Because democracy is largely controlled by "the people", when the people become corrupt(or just plain shit headed), the government follows suit. After enough people are corrupted and begin to bitch about legalizing drugs, the combination of protests, media manipulation, and political competitiveness will result in the eventual legalization of drugs. Then I will be able to enjoy beating the snot out of even more drugged up teenagers who decide to burst into my house for T3H LOLZ(I was the last one laughing... Very Happy )

BTW, should we split this topic into a new one so we can go back to discussing how much WoW sucks? Razz

back to the topic, IMO wow is too addicting, i wouldnt have a problem with it if they would stop friggin making expansions, like, you can spend years getting the best gear available, then a year later, they come out with another level cap, and makes all your gear shit again, so then you have to start from the bottom again and get the new stuff, and ofc, blizzard shall never stop doing this, so you have ppl who can never beat the game and only look at it as there position compared to other people, so imo. there should be no game where there is no endgame, or there is a endgame that never is changing, so they arnt moving the finish line farther away from you. this is me talking from experiance with WOW. which is imo way to addicting.

Ilol'd. particularly at the part where you wanna tell Blizzard what to do with their product. Newsflash Xzav. MMOs exist and get money BECAUSE they are addicting. The very thing you want to eliminate is what keeps hundreds, thousands of people in jobs. Without addiction, MMOs are a bankrupcy. There is no such thing as a game too addictive. There is simply weak minded people. Sorry if i offend anyone, but its true. Dont mean it in a deplorative way.

I agree, these things are going to happen, and, like being drunk in public, can cause problems that endanger everyone. But, when we try to control these things, it just seems like they get much worse.

Moreover, to quote one Bill Hicks, "Hitler had the right idea, he was just an underachiever"

We are the problem XD

It is available, it always has been it's just considered taboo. Gangs got their start by selling alcohol when it was illegal, they survive because drugs are illegal. Make alcohol legal and suddenly it becomes a controllable economic field that has led to jobs. Make drugs legal and you'll get the same result. Doesn't mean you can't make doing things with it illegal like with alcohol, you cover up the dangerous area then let those fools with self-destructive habits destroy themselves. It already happens everywhere, making it illegal just allows the scum of society prosper.

Back to games. Yeah they can be addicting, so what, take responsibility for yourself. Movies produce disgusting and obscene events everyday, we leave them alone. Hell some people get addicted to movies, a "movie buff" is just a clever way of saying they spend way more time then they should watching movies.

your brother is the problem. not the game. The game is addictive, yes, it has routines that people fall into, but it takes problems in the person not being able to do something different. This happens specially with kids that dont face difficulties in their life, when the life is carried for them, instead of by them.

no, its lack of motivational influence. They are raised to sit and do nothing, so they have no capability to get up and do something.

Im happy and respect you more that your choosing your words wisely to be respectful. but what made me mad is it became WoW was the only thing that was "fun" anymore, he diddnt care for anything else, he changed, the kid had fought his way threw school, he was the friggin captain of the robotics team, and we won under him, then he played wow, diddnt get along with the ppl he won with. He diddnt care for anything, became completely insubordinate, yes he has a addictive personality, however he used to fight it. Then WoW came along and thats all he cared about. He had plenty of challenges, he sadly thought he was too smart for everything, the kids a genious, but is also pretty darn stupid. like booksmart hes skipped grades, going into collage as a sophomore. (cause of AP classes and OCC is senior year) however he wouldnt wake up for anything, almost had to retake senior year cause of absences (refusing to go to school) This was all symptoms of when he started playing WoW. Before that he was my idol. Now hes everything im trying not to be.

What im saying, is that was the side-effects of when he started to play wow. He stopped hanging out with friends, his girlfriend was the only person who could get him off of it. And there relationship suffered greatly... The game diddnt do this, but once he started playing this all of these things started to happen. His personality changed, if you look online dray, there are hundreds of thousands of parents who have said the same things.

unless you can prove to me that WoW causes a chemical imbalance in the brain causing an addiction, like nicotine, then I won't believe that WoW actually is addicting.

I will believe that it is, in fact, too much for some people who allow themselves to be caught up in its cycle, by shutting down social interactions to play the game and, instead, simulate social interactions.
