actually, a piano per say is a cordophone Skorp(string family). what drummers have in their drumset is normally a xylophone(percussion) or a electronic keyboard(belonging to the new family of instruments: electronic-ma-thingys)

i hardly think thats a family of instruments Nihil. a piano works by clicking a key wich pinches a steel string in the piano. it is the same concept of a guitar, where you use a pick to pluck a string. hence why i disagree with it being called a percussion. they are solely saying( you hit it and it makes sound duuuuuh), by that thought, almost all string instruments are percussion, since YOU HIT THEM AND YOU MAKE SOUND DOOOOOOH.

every instrument that uses strings, plucks the strings nihil, thats how a string instrument works. just piano is a more mechanical way of plucking it then a guitar, but key, pick, they are the same to me. an object to pluck the string for you.

thats called 'plucking'. plucking is hitting a string so it vibrates. even violins do it, but since their plucking is smooth and not viewable by our eyes, you assume otherwise. all a violin does is do many plucks per second with the stick-thingy(forget the name now) because its frictioning against it. that causes a tune when put together for our ears. im being a bit non musical and more scientifical here, but fuck it.

are you sure about that? Banging sounds a lot different from plucking

plucking is basically banging a string. the concept of banging is that you remove the string from its resting position, and make it vibrate by your impact. plucking is pulling a string out of his rest position, but not yeet releasing its potential energy. only when you release the string, it vibrates. in the end, its the fucking same thing. the string vibrates because you touched it.

Ehh.. I don't exactly think so, because they say a harpsichord sounds richer because of the plucking of the strings, but I suppose, that in a broader sense, like you said, they are basically the same thing.

in the end, the string vibrates. you could actually make physics calculations to match what force of impact in banging corresponds to teh same sound in plucking.

No, its a percussion because it uses a mallet, otherwise, every instrument would be a string instrument, even the drums because it is technically strings of material woven together, just like a string instrument.

yes but the sound a piano makes depends on an individual string after another, wich together form a tune. you play the piano by knowing wich string you pluck and at wich time. its sound depends on a choice of strings.

Well either way its a percussion instrument and if you don't accept it you will have to write some kind of professional musical dissertation that is about 300 pages long on why the piano is a string instrument jocolor
