Not true by any means. Both can sound good on their own. I have heard it live from music at St.Cloud State. Both can sound good by themselves. You can't really compare them though because they're different. Percussion in terms of Classical Orchestration is typically more of the timpanies, bells, marimba etc... Drums are a trap set, marching snare etc... Both can sound good on their own and together, they can sound good as well. But to compare them isn't wise as they both accomplish different things and sound different. Every once and awhile, you will see a concert snare in an orchestra, but not all the time. By that same token, you will see vibes and bells in drum lines as well, but not all the time.

Which is better, in my opinion.... Thats tough since both require different skill sets to play, with a few similar skills thrown in the mix. I love to here a marimba player go at it as well as a set or snare player have a solo. I am gonna say both equally to me.

Never said anything about difficulty. I just said that they require different skill sets, with an occasional congruent skill set.

rofl I am willing to understand them, but I don't intend on digging too deep into them, not worth it imo when something that is true today may be completely wrong tomorrow, except for the broadest and most fundamental of laws that are pretty much common sense anyways

i have been playing drums for 12 years and i can do both. i do not prefer any certian kind of music, classical or rock/metal etc. a drummer just plays for the joy of playing. for percussion, the members of percussion all have to have certian parts and work together with there parts such as snare, bass, triangle, timpani, bells, piano etc. someone on the drumset can do whatever comes naturally to them and can decide what the best judgement is for the bands beat. the drumset allows more freedom while percussion is a strict guideline in a certian way. if i had to choose which one was better, i would have to go with drumset because you have more freedom to do what you want. for percussion you have to stick with a piece of paper with a bunch of music notes on it. most drummers improvise when playing. for sound, percussion would win, for playing, drumset would win. each side has there own ups and downs, but i am just stating my opinion as the way i see it since i have much experience playing both.
