Romantic languages would not be around without Latin and how can you say it is fail when it ruled the entire known world for 500+ years. I see no other country that has ever accomplished such an effective empire as the Romans did and we are still kicking today.

Nope, not dead. Still used in labling the body and required in the medical field. I have 5 years of latin experience and it helps younglings understand more complex vocabulary. And not giving it credit for the basis of many modern languages is similar to saying breaddough is a fail because of bread. [wth?]
