Out of curiosity
I just got myself DA:O Ultimate Edition, I know really late, but shut up I didn't know if I'd like it so I didn't want to pay more than $20 to find out. I had just started it and all of a sudden FREEZE. Restart, get a little farther then FREEZE. Restart and for the first time in my ownership history I see the most heinous thing any Xbox owner can see with his machine a red ring of death. Now I know I shouldn't complain, I've had this console since 2006 and never had a problem, as far as I know that is very rare, but my warranty expired in 2009 for a ring of death and I'm facing the tough decision of either fixing it or replacing it. Fixing it at best, if I use a local repair shop will cost me $65, providing no major parts are FUBAR at which case I'll be out over $100 and be out the console for a week. At worst I send it to microsoft and since I don't trust the mother fuckers that means I'll be out $120 and not have the console for most likely a month or more.
Now, I'm going to see if I can get if fixed for that $65 rate, but if it ends up costing more than that I would like to know if it's worth it to repair this thing. This is a first generation 360 with a 20GB HDD, it is OLD and it's a M$ product with built-in obsolescence in mind and I won't have but 90 days with a renewed warranty once it's fixed. So should I even bother trying to repair it? Another question is, does the PS3 have these type of hardware problems? Because if I'm buying a new console, as much as I hate Sony as a company, I'd rather pay $300 for the console that let's me play online for free and has better rendering and more power, then pay $300+ for the console with fucking slang for its malfunctions it's so common, charges 15 bucks a month for the privilege of using it online, and is already obsolete hardware wise.

Re: Out of curiosity
newer xboxes are safer and dont overheat as much. red ring of death is non existent also. im not sure about prices thou. and if you get a ps3, youre an idiot. what games will you have to play in that? because i know youre a cheap bastard and you wont pay for games. bit too late to change sides now. id recommend just fixing what you have. generation is at the end anyway.
one last thing.
you got dragon age origins....for xbox. youre a fucking moron. the only thing worse is if you had gotten....starcraft for xbox.

Re: Out of curiosity
I have about 12-15 games for the 360, figure trade them in and get back only the ones I care about: ME, AC, maybe Deus Ex.
You forget my card overheats at the drop of a hat, PC wasn't an option.

Re: Out of curiosity
A tad unrelated but I think that if you believe you should get a PS3 for free online, I feel that is stupid. I mean, in my opinion, the reason gold membership for the xbox isn't free is to pay for a variety of things like maintenance and stuff but also I feel the quality, as in interactions with other players, friends list etc., is just superior to the PS3.
Might as well fix xbox or get a new one, idk.

bullshit. dragon age origins is NOT, by any stretch of the imagination, a graphical powerhouse. it runs on pretty much anything decent. and its cheaper as hell on pc. and plays much better on it too. you waste your money buying it for xbox.

xbox live is a scam. there are plenty of companies on the pc that provide your so called SHERVISHES for free. i dont pay for steam, or origin, or xfire. the paying for those things should come from console and game income, advertisement, etc. not from a subscribed internet. your sheepish belief that xbox live is somehow fair and that youre not being bumfucked by paying it, is simply an illusion to protect yourself from disappointment. xbox live is slighty, and i highlight, VERY SLIGHTLY, superior, to its ps3 comparative. wich isnt saying much, since the community is 10x worse.

Re: Out of curiosity
Have you BEEN on Xbox Live Exile? I don't even do the Gold membership because Dray is right and it's a complete and total rip-off, something PCs and PSs have been providing for years for free.
And Dray... I CAN'T PLAY ARKHAM ASYLUM.
Comparative requirements(green means higher of the two, red lower, yellow tie):
Arkham Asylum
Window XP/Vista
Intel Pentium4 3GHz/AMB Athlon 64 3500+
1GB XP/2GB Vista
nVidia 6600/ ATI 1300
Dragon Age: Origins
Windows XP/Vista/7
Intel Core Duo 1.6Ghz/AMD Athlon 64 X2 1.8Ghz
1 GB XP/1.5 GB Vista
ATI X850/nVidia 6600 GT
BTW I go DA:O Ultimate Edition for $15.

Re: Out of curiosity
you cant play asylum because sth is causing a error, but your pc is capable of handling asylum.
and speaking as someone who owns and plays to death both games, da o doesnt come NEAR the graphical power that asylum does. i mean, its not in the same league. and another thing that i noticed. you bought dragon age origins, a entrenched and complex RPG with leveling, gameplay tactics, hotkey and mouse driven content, for the xbox, but you bought arkham asylum, one of the few games i own that i refuse to use nothing but a gamepad, for the pc....
what is wrong with you nerd?

Re: Out of curiosity
No Arkham Asylum overheats my card, I did a test and after 5 minutes of rendering in AA my comp's temp was 106 C. DA:O would clock my processor more and my card the same meaning it would result in the same problem. I bought AA because I got it for 15 when I did and was unaware of the problem I would have with it, I bought DA:O when I knew my PC wouldn't handle it.

Meh even if you have to pay for live, I can't say I haven't enjoyed it. Although I understand how PCs supply the same thing. I just couldn't get the means to get a quality gaming computer until now so an xbox helped because it could handle games my computer couldn't

Re: Out of curiosity
Oh I understand your position, I have been in the same for a while with my card not working like planned and I own a 360 myself obviously and it's a decent console, but I've never defended Microsoft's charging for online play. Computer games, with the exception of MMOs, have never charged for online play, Sony for all the hate I bear them their business practices have also never charged for online with either the PS2 or the PS3. Microsoft is now in it's second generation of charging for internet access and is planning to continue the practice into the next generation.
There's no excuse for this. MMOs at least can get away with the excuse that it is a MASSIVE online environment and their servers must support HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of players at any given moment. The rise of FTP games has since poked holes in this excuse and it's rapidly becoming apparent that the MMO subscription model is on it's last legs. Microsoft had no such excuses in the first place, they give no service worth the $15 a month price tag and when faced with the truth of the subscription model dying, instead of wising up and supporting their fans they're doubling down on something that's dead. Let's face it, the first console in a generation is always the dominant console and THAT is the ONLY reason anyone defends this antique business practice, because they made the wrong choice and don't want to look the idiot.

Re: Out of curiosity
I defended Xbox's subscription until I actually played on Xbox servers very consistently to see that they have the same issues that the ps3 does. But I've noticed errors are corrected and connections and repaired MUCH faster than ps3 does. If not instantly. Some errors have to do with lack of quality connection. Pay 60$ and you're good. I don't really care, honestly. I stay away from Sony. I have the new Xbox Slim, and for 300$ you get the Elite which has 250 gb HD and two controllers. Maybe a mic, not sure. But Xbox is way more entertainment friendly than ps3. I personally use it to play music thru speakers from a hard drive and such. Plus the controllers are much more comfortable than the moldy ps2 design. Just awkward.
Expect rampant server issues on ps3 tho
