whats best for JKA

personaly i believe practicing on poles does alot of good. specialy when you know what your doing. it teaches you control. personaly this is what i think.

I disagree. Poles dont move all the time and they dont react to your moves and counter what your doing. They dont teach you strategy or how to think on your feet, how to change strategy mid duel if necessary. Thats why I like the dueling because somebody is there to see you and your moves, react and try to counter, forcing you to make changes and strategize

ima debate you on that one. this is where knowing how to train on the poles comes in handy. the pole i would start out only for knowing what range you can burst in at. then i know from experiance. it helps you with target zones. and from there, the ability to skate around somebodys saber. i did for a hour straight a day or two ago. moving in and out of yello range on a pole using blue to hit it, of course weaving randomly immatating the randomness of improvised footwork. it comes down to how u use the pole. also the pole teaches you how to control your saber. trust me. the reason im improving like crzy is im slicing the pole.

<--never uses dem poles. tried some times, found it didnt have the pace needed for me. i need a exponential training. dem poles never gave me a control i didnt have. opponents are what i need, the stronger the better.

i dont think anybody has ever showed you how to use the poles profiently dray... they work wonders...

Id duel someone good so they can tell me wat i need to work on.

^ Agreed, 100%-ly. For me it's definitely duels, they just work better then poles /at least for me/, but yeah, I believe with proper teachers poles can be handy as well.

agreed with that. poles are almost useless without a teacher.

I've really never heard the term pole before.

Poles, met several clans that used them to teach. The poles themselves never improved the people training, but once they learned how to navigate them they would work on fighting in constant dueling against good opponents. THAT is when you would see an increase in skill, the poles taught them to be more sure of their footing, but it was useless without the dueling. I've also seen clans that only used duels in improve skills, and while the progress was less drastic they still got to the same level in roughly the same time.

Point is that duels will improve your skills by themselves, polls can help, but they don't work without dueling. The way you develop skills in JKA is by moves and footwork, the polls teach you the footwork first so that when you have the moves you can use them well, but constant dueling teaches you how to look for openings in an aggressive opponent. It's a coin flip basically, you'll improve at the same rate, but the poles will result in a very fast, very aggressive offense, whereas the duels will result in a more passive, watching offense.

Both ,cuz on the stupid ,but useful ,poles u build ballance and u dont move like a kicked horse ,u kno right what to do.
Duels ,u can learn much from the people you are dueling with and they can help you or at least tell you what u need to work on!
But best training is the "100 Cuts"

thats why your so respectible aard. you can put things into easy terms for people to understand and relate too. I agree with what you said 100% pretty much sums up about everything.

Duels Ftw

I never used poles. Duel people who are better then you are, try your best, and lose. Keep learning from your mistakes and eventually you will start to win. That's the best way to improve your skills, learn distance, etc. By only playing against people who are better then you, you will have no choice, but to improve if you want to play the game.
