Running out of Memory
Hey all. Quick ?. I'm running out of memory on my laptop. Had to delete all games to create room for school. Got any alternate storage methods/list of programs I can delete from my comp? Windows 7. Thanks. Still love you all.

Or use USB HDD :/ Some simple one, put there all the things you don't need on your comp usually, only when the times comes. I guess that's all I can tell. Try defragging your HDD on laptop, that may be useful as well.

defrag may help, not sure what it is called in win7...
Also i aree that an external HDD is a good solution, all of my games (Steam) are installed on an external drive.

Re: Running out of Memory
Program I use called Advanced System Care repairs registry, defrags, finds security holes and will remove old and redundant files. I use it once every couple of weeks and usually clear out about 12 megs, but when I first used it it cleared over a gig of space. As far as external storage, you can get 8GB flash drives for around $16 a pop now and last time I was at a computer show I picked up a 320 GB External for $65, though you can get up to a TB external for less than $200 any more.

Re: Running out of Memory
I have a 1TB HDD, with no need for a power outlet, it just plugs in the
USB, USB 3.0. Got it for about 85- 90 dollars. Relatively easy to buy
space nowadays.
This comes with a few side problems...mainly to do with access times, inferior speeds, wich result in slower data recovery.
Usually you just put files pics musics in your externals, because accessing them is easy peasy compared to games n software.

Re: Running out of Memory
that is true and there have been some issues with access times in game that i have seen. so far, they have been minor and i have been able to work around them. I play for fun anyway as i am not especially skillful at any of the games i play regularly... except for the occasional flashes of brilliance i display when i play JK ;P
Either way i figure is is the eIDE interface between the drive and the enclosure that is causing some issues. The through put of USB 3.0 is most excellent and my current external does not take full advantage. I am in the market for a SATA drive in the 250 GB range as it will have better than twice the space and 3 - 4x the speed of my current drive.
