I dreaded this day....elders foretold of it, but we dismissed it as a myth...yet now here it is...before our very eyes, unfolding the unholy apocalyptic war.

AMD will win since from my understanding it is a straight up card while nVidia is a virtual card style. I expect Aard to come in here and prove me wrong.

AMD will win, AMD is more dedicated to hardcore gaming and produces better cards, Nvidia is more user friendly and cheaper.

Since Aard made no comment ill explain further. AMD/ATI cards/processors are completely hardware ie they have all the cores built into the card. nVidia/i5/i7 cards/processors have this thing called virtual cores. Basically AMD/ATI have a higher core clock to the similar nVidia style cards. However, the nVidia style has this 'virtual core' thing where it is basically overclocking but its different. That is my understanding which is why I prefer ATI/AMD over nVidia.

Re: Shit just got real.
No they have the same amount of hardware cores. First of all, dont compare GPUs to processors...two very different things. Then, the difference in nVidia uses virtual core division. Kinda like i7 has 8 virtual cores, to ease up the tesselation process and other stuff.but in terms of hardware, its still just a simple QuadCore processor. Physically, they have the same amount of cores. That has nothing to do with power. In fact, ATIs are better than nVidia cards, slightly better, in terms of graphical enhancement. nVidia is much better than ATI in the physics division. These differences between the two are even greater when you use SLI/Crossfire.
Now that the gaming industry is plateauing in graphical enhancement, youll start to see more n more innovation in physics and gameplay department, AKA, ATI is starting to fall behind, because they have far less investment in that area than nVidia does.
Aard, ATI is VERY buggy and VERY incompatible. It is not better for hardcore gamers, because it has a lot of compatibility issues, and library issues. You are far better playing Crysis with a nVidia than a ATI, and that goes for any game that pushes the benchmark.
However this is very superficial, the difference between the two isnt that big.
To sum it up Bull,
This core thing youre saying? It doesnt really exist, otherwise you would see a difference of power. Virtual core distribution is useful for a lot of things, but it doesnt make it better or worse.

Re: Shit just got real.
AMD and ATI usually go together, while nVidia and the i5/i7 company processors go together. You start having bugs when you cross over or overclock a lot and don't cool. I digress, AMD/ATI wins.

Uh, not true to the first one, and duh to the second one. ATI puts a lot of cards on Intel processors, and they give out as much error outbreaks as nVidia does. Even worse, nVidia is notoriously known for shitty driver updates, and ATI for general shittyness, even on AMD processors. The second one is fucking duh. If you overclock continuously, be it Intel, AMD, nVidia, whatever, youre bound to fuck up something. has nothingto do with brands or design.
Also, nVidia has a big fucking part of the market, and Intel has a even bigger fucking part of the market. THATS why they usually go together. cause theyre the most sold GPU and processor. Many games are also designed for nVidia, because of their physicX and CUDA capacity. There are others who design with ATI. Hell, Dirt 2 was designed with Intel and ATI.

Re: Shit just got real.
Dray I use an nVidia mainly because for what I wanted in terms of power it was $10 cheaper, and I get errors all the time on games where it says "card not recognized, this game supports AMD video cards" so then I have to force compatibility on them and they then end up working fine.

Am I the only one here who supports nVidia?

lol i give up on debating you on these things, you get the worst luck in computers ive ever seen, as well as the most unique freak events ever. i advise you to not get acomputer ever again aard. i have not seen this card compatibility complaint in YEARS. and i dig around thru forums and Troubleshooters quite a bit.

Re: Shit just got real.
Got it on ME1, Crysis 2 Demo, & CoD:BO Demo. It might have something to do with the card itself, I did upgrade it beyond it's normal specs.

My opinion on another topic.
It depends on what you're gonna use the laptop/desktop for. Gaming and such you'd probably want Alienware or something to that extent. It's entirely up to you since everyone favors a certain brand or computer and you can have a thousand people say one thing and a thousand saying another and they can BOTH be wrong.

Re: Shit just got real.
I've had both cards, this one I use right now is Nvidia, normal specs on it were 256 MB dedicated RAM and Direct X 9.0c compatibility. I upgraded it to 1 GB dedicated RAM and I run it with Direct X 11. My old card was an overclocked Radeon 9200. That card lasted a looooooooooong time and I got it to run well beyond generation limitations. I got the card in 2003, I still have it, I installed it on my parents PC to replace the PoS manufacturer card they had. It glitches occasionally, but it still works well.
I never had a compatibility issue except on one game and it was because the graphics were technically too high to run on the card, but I forced the issue and I have 30 hours logged on the game. The nVidia I get a shitload of compatibility issues, but I can force the software to accept and I have the power to run every game on the market at top spec.
