My god, this guys's a fucking idiot.

Of-fucking-course your kids'll get mad if you take the controller away from them, unless they've done something wrong, there's no reason to take it away. You could say the same thing about cellphones.

Yeah having anything you're involved with pulled out of your hands for no reason will usually result in a "WTF!?!?" moment. Get someone into a book yank it out of their hands and you'll get the same reaction. As for sleeplessness, easy, when you play a game, especially a fast paced one, you think much faster than you do normally. Go play Mirror's Edge, run through a level, and then think about what you've just done. There's is an enormous amount of subconscious thought going on to filter the input and pick the best solution. Recognizing the color cue, hitting the jump, knowing you need to roll when you hit the ground, and catching a glimpse of a cop a second later that makes you slide kick, to groin kick, to head slam, and continuing the run right after is a shitload of thought process to go through in 3 seconds. Especially when you consider that those moves are mapped to a controller that adds another filter to process input through. The more info you process close to bed the harder it is for your brain to wind down in time for sleep and the weirder your dreams will be. The problems is there are very few things that can make our minds process that much input at once so games are getting labelled bad.
