Latin was more used as mottos back in the day, so it was most likely a trend follow.

Jk, but yeah i actually do take Latin. Semper Fi was an old motto in the SPQR time (Republic) and used in the legions (To my knowledge anyway) So it has always been military.

I don't give a rats ass. I don't dumb down anything for anyone. Learn it right or don't learn at all. They are romance langauges, not latin languages.

You said you knew it better than anyone here. I said that was a pretty big assumption, and still is.

ididnt say i knew it better then anyone here. i said i knew it better then anyone, wich is a known expression, meaning, i know what im saying, not saying that the people around me know less then me. but i wil change that expression if i must speak without using half terms. and no one calls them romance languages. only teachers at school.

Italian is close to Latin and look at these two translations:

Alla gloria militar

now latin

ad gloriam militarem

they translate to

to military glory

and thats a VERY similar one think about the not similar ones

Again, no one would fucking know what ur talking about if u said Romance languages in a common conversation. i just used Latin languages for pratical purposes.
Also, i dont know where you get that from, but italian is NOT latin, and will never be. in fact, it only sounds some parts like latin, but if im not wrong about this(i could be), it isnt even considered the closest language to latin structurally. i havent looked into this, but if i remember it right, Portuguese is the closest one. and French the furthest. but i digress.
my point is, Italian is nice, Latin is not. Dont go thinking they sound the same, cause they dont. i just dislike Latin, its a dead language, with much better versions of it nowadays(Romance languages, well except for French maybe) and does not captivate me the same it captivates you guys.

Wtf Dray go research before you begin an argument. Yes people use Romance Languages in common talk because they are usually educated. Furthermore, all Romance's come from Latin as Nihil stated and they resemble Latin closely but are spoken differently due to accents that have grown over the years. Also, how are you going to tell me Italian is not even close to Latin. First off they are on the same friggin peninsula, secondly, Italian is Latin over the years, thirdly I am Italian and I'm pretty sure I would know what is and isn't close to Latin/Italian and fourthly my Latin teacher went to Italy, did not know any Italian, and spoke only Latin, and the general Italian population understood her.

So, please take your fail somewhere else Dray, your not going to defeat a 2500+ year old beast that is the Roman Latin.

1. i actually LIVE in those latin countries? So i have actually more research material than you there in america .|.

2. You just said a ton of shit that is wrong being:
-the 5 romantic languages have structural and grammatical changes that make them unspeakable to one another.
-if i know portuguese and spanish, i do NOT know french. i MAY understand a bit of french due to knowing a latin language, but i do not, and CANNOT say that i speak or understand french becuz of that. THAT. IS. A. FUCKING. FACT. knowing latin does not give you access to the Romantic languages Bulldog. that is a lie.
-It is widely known that Italian is a close language to Latin, but you canot assume, NOT EVEN FOR A FUCKING SECOND, that knowing Latin will give you access to Italian. Dont assume that its some ACCENT from Latin, because it is not Bull. its not. its a different language, and im guessing the thousands of people over teh years who have stated that italian is a language, not an accent of latin, have a heavy weight on that right? thats an insult, to many people, by saying Romantic languages are an ACCENT of latin. learn some more please.
-If you speak latin in Italy, you may catch some of the stuff they say, and they may catch some of the stuff you say, but Bull...ive seen greek people come here to Portugal, not knowing Portuguese or any latin language(and english is NOT the answer), and people can understand each other. WHY? becuz thats how humans work. we find a way to communicate. Body language, pointing, even similar words. You do not know italian by knowing latin. never. That. is. a. fucking. fact.

and im not going to defeat a 2500+ year old language, becuz i dont have to. its dead already. and its just a case of not liking it. now go and try and pick up girls with latin, see what youll get.... jeez, a person cant have an opinion these days.
