Too much 3D? Empty Too much 3D?

Post by Sqrl Tue Dec 14, 2010 4:29 pm

Ever since Avatar, it seems like every single movie since then is made in 3D. With upcoming movies like the re-envision of Gulliver's Travels which is going to be made in 3-D.

Gulliver's Travels 2010 trailer

And of course we've had some movies that were made in 3-D which failed as well (not mentioning any names.) And companies like Sony and Samsung have manufactured 3D televisions which require no 3-D glasses to wear to watch your favorite shows.

So my questions are this, is it too much 3D? or is it just a "phase" and will be gone in a few years? What is everyone's opinion on the big 3-D bloom?

3D is the new HD. Although the 3D tvs suck. Once people are able to make more affordable 3D tvs/movie tickets, and more convenient means of viewing, I'm sure 3D will take over more than it has already.

Also, Avatar made all these 3D things possible, that's y u see so much now.

PS: I hope Glee's cast lays on a landmine too <3

There is a difference between a 3D movie, and movies in 3D. the latter is a piece of shit, that was just added another dimension to cost more and buy in on a gimmick, hurting your heads and eyes. The former is when a movie is made with 3D in mind, from scratch, wich is what you get from Pixar movies and movies like How to Train your Dragon, wich is further proof that 3D is not the future of tv, it is a added technology gadget at developer's disposal, but you have to know when and how to use it.

3D, HD, fads that will pass into obscurity in the next 5 years. 3D will be like amusement parks, something you go see once in a while. And HD, HD is just the industry's way to artificially inflate the price of increased resolution since no new technology has emerged since the DVD.

You know what was HD 5 years ago? The res most people run their comps at now. HD is just a name invented for resolution above a certain level. It was given a specific name so people would think it was major advance in technology when really it is nothing more then the same standard of progress we've had since the late 70s.

blu-ray is HD >.< just HD DVD was the name of the company.

im sure our HD is better these days then the 70's ;D plus who cares what it was this many years ago. HD is all about now and the future and the quality and the possibility of the quality. im sure you'd rather watch a brand new 1080p HD tv then some 70's HD tv ;D

Yes but the difference is because they named it, now they can charge 2x-3x more for you to GET it. You seem to be missing the point, HD is just increased resolution, 1080p I believe is 2500x1900, and resolution has been gradually increasing since the 70s, 8-bit is a resolution setting, just like 1080p, but the difference is that it wasn't that terribly expensive to double from 8 to 16 bit back in the late 70s, but now if you want to go from 1200x1080 to 2500x1900 you have to pay a HUGE price. The simple fact is HD wouldn't exist if we'd had a new piece of technology 5-6 years ago to supplement the DVD player, but since they didn't have new technology to flash they instead decided to gimmick the progress that's been going on for decades and cheat people out of their money.

ok? lol so your saying you wouldnt buy an HD TV just cuz they make it a lil pricey even if you have the money to buy it? fact is its better then the standard t.v and people in this modern day always want better, and rigth now HD is exactly that. and as long as HD keeps getting better NO MATTER HOW THEY DO IT, people are always gonna get it

People get it because they're told they have to have the latest and greatest. Want to know how much it would cost to get a 42 inch HD setup on your computer? Around $400 and it can do a hell of a lot more then just play things. Wanna know how much you're gonna be putting out for HDTV at 42 inches? Minimum $600 unless you get it on sale. You want to know WHY there's a $200 dollar difference? Because computers register in res, not HD, in fact HD was added as an after thought to most card names because the designers didn't see the point when just saying the resolution was so much more accurate.

Full HD, that is the max res of Blu Ray, is ALMOST ALWAYS 1900x1080p(My laptops resolution), wich is for tvs who publish themselves as HD, the minimum resolution to be considered HD. Tbh, above that resolution, you notice a difference if you look ~hard for it, but it is unnoticeable. Further more, only a few movies are shot in a resolution that you variably notice above the 1920x1080 res.
