very nice, althou, i cannot get pass the unpraticality of long swords in modern days...there are simply too many ways to render them useless, due to their weight and size, wich althou being their strength, is also their weakness. Heavy weapons are harder to hold in your grasp, as well as easier to snatch from you.
Anyway, these videos do nicely to some fencing poses.

Yeah the claymores were primarily designed to cleave through heavier armor. The weapons evolved with the armor. Much like the animal worlds natural evolution.

As ye lads says, the Gaius' legionares won most battles against the Gauls cause they had them short swords. A stabbing cut is far worse than a chop imo.
If that made any sense. I am tired.
Awesome videos anyways!

Re: How to be a medieval warrior
the trick, i think, was avoiding the big sword and striking with the shorter one. the size did matter most of the time but with the Scutum(Shield), Gladius(Short Sword) and the Pilum(Thrusting Spear) Rome was almost unstoppable in their Primary battle formations.
the Roman infantry typically was deployed, as the main body, facing the enemy. During deployment in the Republican era, the maniples were commonly arranged in triplex acies (triple battle order): that is, in three ranks, with the hastati in the first rank (that nearest the enemy), the principes in the second rank, and the veteran triarii in the third and final rank as barrier troops, or sometimes even further back as a strategic reserve. When in danger of imminent defeat, the first and second lines, the Hastati and Principes, ordinarily fell back on the Triarii to reform the line to allow for either a counter-attack or an orderly withdrawal.

The roman short swords were indeed effective due to their formations. They had many tactics. Do not down play the Gauls though, they were not as barbaric as history makes them out to be. They invented many things the romans actually stole from them such as chain mail armor. Which by the way, the short sword is very effective against since a piercing weapon goes through chain like butter while chain deflects most slashing and chopping attacks (as most bigger swords are used for).
