Nature vs. Nurture Empty Nature vs. Nurture

Post by Aardvark Sun Nov 01, 2009 11:20 pm

This is a basic debate that almost always comes up at one point or another. What effects us more, the instincts we are born with, or the environment in which we are raised, and what instincts are actually part of us at birth, and which are learned as we grow? Everyone enters a fight at some point in their life, but is that natural, are we, as a species, predisposed to violence, or is that an effect of our history and culture? Likewise are we naturally peaceful, or is it simply that some are trained out of violence at a young age? Are we naturally brave, and some are simply shielded from the harsh realities of the world, or are we naturally afraid and some are simply forced to endure?

Any and all questions and answers relating to this are welcome, it's a broad subject and almost any temperament can be questioned.

well i think everything has an effect on us and we have an effect on everything that is around us but if it comes to the nature we slowly destroy it. Even tho most of ppl dont realize it . i wonder where all the tons of waste and garbage is that we produce ......doesnt that ever made you think ?

i agree it is based on a circulatory system we are created/born one way, but as we get more mature if you will we get influenced by people, our work, etc
And we also then effect the enviroment by polluting it for our needs, using oil and other fossil fuels which are very scarce right now. Thus eventually causing the 'downfall' of our planet

lol sin, not that what hes talkin about. i think environment weighs a lot more then our genes. genetics is there, but all it does is gvie a lil push. environment gives a hell of a big push, and thats what trully affects us.

Really cool avi sin is that you?

And and to stay OT, I think genetics sets you up to lean towards certain personality traits. And then environment, experiences and biases set up the rest.

i don't think genetics predisposes any behavior, because at birth our minds are just hard coded for survival, and we build off from there.

Uhmm part of our behavior stems from instinct. Sexual impulse? Hunger? They all drive a portion of our personality.

That is what you call a bias. And bias are usually formed through experience. Part of the personality (some would say personality itself) is biases and experiences.
