UTP isnt the same as LAN thou. You can configure a home network in either of the computers spider, its not hard, its simple.

yes. Your computer has the ability(if it has network card) to create a local network. any other computer with wireless or direct connection to your local network emitter can connect to that network

What system OS u use. Most of rly old computers u can connect by RS232 port (parell)
But if Your old machine working on xp (for example) then u can use simple switch to connect two or more computers. Most games can made own lan. Few times me and Zawisza was played on two computers by lan maked by JK3 Smile One of those computers was server and second was client Smile

There are a couple of ways to go here.

If both machines have a network card, you can get a couple of network cables (RJ45) and a hub or switch. plug them all in and it should work. You can also get what is called a 'cross over' cable and hook them up back to back.

You can also get a parallel cable but most new games do not have the protocols to network this way.

If one does not have a network card then i am not sure. you may be able to get a PCMCIA card for the laptop, providing it has the port to plug it in.

A modem will allow a computer to 'dial in' to a remote network or the internet, that is true, it will not allow a lan setup between two computers in the same room... that being said, if they are hooked up to different numbers, one can dial into the other and be connected. That would require 2 phone lines (2 separate phone numbers) and Modems to be in each computer.
