Rockstar Games States the Obvious
GammaSquad wrote:
BBC Radio 1 recently interviewed Lazlow Jones, one of the developers of Red Dead Redemption and the voice of DJ Lazlow in the Grand Theft Auto series. They asked him how he feels about accusations that games like theirs cause violence in children. A question that shouldn’t even be asked because it’s so frikkin stupid, and he explained the stupidity of it succinctly:
I want to tattoo that on the inside of the eyelids of any newscaster who reports the manufactured controversy that game manufacturers are somehow beholden to only produce games for children. Oh, Becky and Jason didn’t realize there might be violence in a game called Grand Theft Auto so they let little Madosyn and Dakota play the game and the little angels saw adult-themed things, like cars getting stolen? Cry me a river, you stupid, sh*tty parents.
I liked this quote from the interview also:I don’t have a joke for this or anything. I just like this dude. He can steal imaginary cars with me anytime.Lazlow Jones wrote:If you tell a gritty crime drama with violence and profanity and call it The Sopranos you’re handed a load of awards to put up on the shelf. You do the same and call it a video game and you’ll have certain organizations up in arms.

Eh, so we live in a world where parents abuse their kids, and some repotter who is trying to egg on some dickhead hardcore conservatists by saying some game causes more violence than that?

He's got a point. Why don't they go after the Sopranoes like that? I mean, if you just heard that out of the blue as a TV show name is the first thought in your head really going to be gratuitous violence?

So glad that companies are taking a stand against these idiots. Its assumed that video games are meant for kids only, BULLSHIT. We need more companies to call out the media on their idiotic crusade. If you want to point fingers at anyone, point them at parents.

What I am saying is they are villainizing the companies so much for advertising to kids when the fact remains that the parents are the ones who need to control what their kids play and what their kids belief and value systems are structured around.

Re: Rockstar Games States the Obvious
no since most of us haven't played it yet. Anyways...the problem is both parents and peer pressure. Most parents dgaf and then there are independent kids and they all want these popular new games that are rated M but still get them despite being underage. Parents buy them but

Re: Rockstar Games States the Obvious
The game rating system is behind the times. Current graphics levels and realism put pretty much any game that involves fighting into the M category. I'm sorry, but Halo? Not an M game to me, no mature theme, not excessively gory either. Or how about Splinter Cell Double Agent? Not even any blood besides some minor splatter. The rating system needs to be revised, and games with just blood splatter or some mild language need to be reclassified as Teen.

Re: Rockstar Games States the Obvious
Halo was never an M game, but, as long as the parents keep their interests and money towards this stuff, not gonna happen.

Re: Rockstar Games States the Obvious
I also find these as excuses. "My kid played GTA so that's why he went on a sociopathic rampage through town!" Bull shit, your kid can't tell reality from fiction because you never explained that shit to him. You want to keep kids from doing stupid shit? Talk to them, if you can understand it, then so can they.

Re: Rockstar Games States the Obvious
The rating system has never worked properly and is more of a shitty guideline than anything. They really need to reorganize it like they do on TV, telling people directly whats in the game and thats it. Would also be nice to see 3 levels for each warning, so a level 1 gore warning might mean some blood and violence, while a level 3 would mean dismemberment and decapitations etc.

Re: Rockstar Games States the Obvious
Damn, i imagine if it was Rockstar making COD 6. they would of made a ton of jokes in the Airport scene. lol. Infinity Ward on the other hand, even puts warnings: "The level your about to play is disturbing and might shock or insult you. you can choose to skip this level, with no repercussions to your scores and game completions"
