I think people find him popular not only because he's successful, but he's also redefining the basketball player stereotype. Unlike the stereotypical tall black guy, he's shorter for a basketball player and he's asian. He's making people question stereotypes, which I believe is a part of his popularity.

And he shit on the mavs. I was happy with how the knicks played against the Heat, especially for such a green team
