The Left Hand Of God - A book by Paul Hoffman (Other reviews & further info: Link)

Date Published: 2009
Type/Category: Adventure, Fantasy
Timeline: Presumably Middle-Ages, Fictional
Size: About 300 pages
Verdict: Totally worth reading

//Story/Sum-up//

Thomas Cale. A child of destiny. After the death of his family, Cale was brought to the Sanctuary at the age of 4, a massive building run by the so-called Redeemers, (a heretic band who worship the Holy Redeemer), a place more like a military training ground than a protective house of God. Amongst the Redeemers he and the hundreds of other children and young who accompany him in the Sanctuary and on this journey through hell, have known suffering beyond imagination. The rule in the training battlements of the sanctuary was, after all, “Fight and overcome, or die and burn eternally in hell”. And burn they did.

The now teenage Cale witnesses the Lord of Discipline of the Sanctuary dismembering two young girls about his age in his private chambers. Disgusted, Cale reacts killing the Redeemer and saving one of the unlucky girls. Busy as they were with their war against the Antagonists in the East, the Redeemers take some time to realize that the boy Cale, along with two other Redeemer acolytes and a mysterious young girl have escaped the sanctuary and are headed for the nearby town of Memphis.

There, the party will meet with Chancellor Vipond and the Marshal of this great capital of the Materazzi Empire. A people who wishes for glory in the field of battle more than anything, and who is shocked by the ways in which the three acolytes were trained to kill in the Sanctuary.

Cale, the protagonist, throughout his journey will kill, ambush, know betrayal and pain, as well as love, as his destiny unfolds before him. After all, he is the Left Hand of God.

//Comments//

It combines tragedy and cruelness with humor and ingenuity.
The events are endless and the action non-stop. I recommend this to any person regardless of their age.

NOTE: This book is part of a trilogy that is yet to be finished. This is the first book of the series, and the second one has already been published: The Last Four Things

Comments : The water was thick with blood. I knew what i did. What i had to do. They told me i was insane. Those fools knew nothing of the meaning of insanity. They were the ones that murdered my love beneath the waves.

Gladly, I gave them the same fate. I took them to the OceanFloor. From there, I committed justice in pure and utter hatred. From there, and to now, I became the trench. I became the depths. I became...The Abyss. The Dark Side has set me free.
