Amusing... Empty Amusing...

Post by Bulldog Wed Jan 26, 2011 4:49 am

So, I had to do an assignment for my CSC 110 class which involved a number of things. Overall, it is stuff I have been doing since I was 4. Here is the humorous video we had to record and the instructions.

Unit User interface Exercises
For this assignment, you will need to have opened an account at ScreenToaster so that you can record your work.
Objective
Show your understanding of how to use the computer user interface. There are a lot of instructions here. You should be able to carry out all of them without hesitation.
Directions
1. Log in to http://www.screentoaster.com/.
2. Click Start Recording. You will be told to enter Alt-S to start the recording. Go to your Windows desktop first, then hit Alt-S. Your cursor may flicker a bit, but it will still be functional.
3. Create a new folder on the Windows desktop, and name it today.
4. On the desktop, create a new text file and name it hello.txt.
5. Set folder options for all folders on the computer so that the file extension .txt for file hello.txt and extensions for all other files are shown.
6. Open file hello.txt and write a few words it in. Then close the file.
7. Make a copy of the file hello.txt.
8. Rename the copy of hello.txt as goodbye.txt. Move both files to the folder today.
9. Create a shortcut on the desktop to the file goodbye.txt in the folder today. Double-click the shortcut to show that it works as it should. Close the file.
10. On the desktop, create a new Word document called hello.docx. Write in the document the words, “Hi, Mom!”
11. On the desktop, create a new picture using Paint or another program. In the picture draw a smiley face or a valentine. Save the picture as love.jpg.
12. Copy the picture you just created to the Windows clipboard. Paste it in the file hello.docx. Close hello.docx and put it in the folder today.
13. Open your college e-mail. Compose a letter to yourself with the subject ScreenToaster test. Attach the file hello.docx to the letter and send it.
14. Throw away the folder today and the picture you downloaded.
15. Recover the file hello.txt from the discarded folder today. Store it on the desktop, and open it from there. Throw it away again.
16. Navigate to the root directory of the computer you’re using and show all the folders there.
17. Navigate to the folder that holds your desktop, starting from the root directory.
18. Close all the folders that are open.
19. Press Alt-S to pause recording. The letter P for pause will show next to your cursor. Go to the ScreenToaster window and click Stop Recording.
20. Click the button to upload the video to the ScreenToaster web site. Give it any title you like. I would click private if I were you. Click Upload.
21. Scroll down the next window to find the URL for your video and copy it to the Windows clipboard.
22. Close the browser, then open it again. Test the URL that you copied to the clipboard to make sure that you can see your video. Copy the URL into an e-mail to yourself.
23. To finish your assignment, submit the URL that ScreenToaster has created for you via Blackboard.
Grading
Everyone is expected to get an excellent score.
All operations complete, correct, fluent: 40 points
Missed operations: minus 3 points each
Slipped operations (you have to make several tries): minus 1 points each

A note: Screentoaster didn't work so we were told to use this instead. Yes, it picked up my mic since I leave it plugged in, you hear me sighing from boredom and sneezing once.

Would take 5 minutes and that's if you stop to double-check everything.

S is for Sonic, his fleet feet reknowned. T is for Tetris blocks falling in mounds. U is for Ulala’s fast, funky feet. V is for Video cards, fast obsolete. W for Wizardry; through dungeons we’d scurry. X for the Xbox, as big as Missouri. Y is for Yoshi, a plumber’s best friend. Z is for Zelda, and here this rhyme ends.
