Aard 300 if freakin heaps bro, you must spend all day working out! 300 would take forever.

From what my personal trainer and other gym people have said, doing 3-4 sets of 6-10 reps is best for building general strength. so basically the weight should be heavy enough so on your 10th rep you cant do anymore, because you want intense muscle contraction in order for the muscle to tear. Heaps of reps are good for endurance but it will take a very long time and maybe never to enable you to increase your strength for lifting heavy weight.

That's 300 with a 3 pound weight xD. It seriously takes me about 3 hours to do it, and I only do it sporadically, it's not constant. I can do about 30 push-ups in a minute, and about 20 reps in a minute, and yes I'm doing them correctly.

yeah man I would seriously recommend a heavier weight, it will give you way more time in a day!

thats interesting you can do more pushups in a min than you do reps with the weights, the pushups should be much harder considering the weight of the dumbbell.

Nihil I wish the gym was free soooooo much as well, it costs me $80 a month. bloody expensive!

I do reps slowly because that's how you're supposed to do them, I do push-ups fast to get them over with xD

Couldn't do any yesterday, went hiking instead so there's only the 500 for today to add.

Personal total: 87,527
Overall Total: 184,000

I think I'm just going to stop posting push-ups until April and give a mass contribution instead of these small ones.

Nice job aard that is a lot of calories you have burned (fat gain averted) and probable strength and muscle mass you have gained (extra good muscle weight gain). If you ate better I bet you would get a killer physique.

I cut them down by a lot, it was starting to really mess with my health, joints got bad, blood pressure sky rocketed. Walking mostly now, do about 50 a day on top of a 5 mile walk.

hmm thats not good. I dont know how pushups would increase blood pressure, if anything it would go down.

Are you taking anything for the joint pain? i have started taking glucosamine tablets for joints. I started get joint pain because of lifting weights at the gym.

I have a tendency to hold my breath when I do push-ups and I have trouble making myself do so consistently so it raised my blood pressure. As for the joints, not surprising considering I dislocate them usually 3-4 times a week and I'm 300 pounds.

You may have to diet down a little first before you start exercising. In some cases the persons body cannot handle the stress of intense exercise until they have less pressure on their joints.
